Adding aftermarket exhaust to pre-97 NSX without header, any hp gains?

Does anyone have dyno results for pre-97 NSX with just aftermarket exhaust/ no header. I did search the forum, many results for 97~03 NSX, unfortunately not a single dyno result with just exhaust/no headers for pre-97 NSX.

The 97~nsx seems to gain~10~18rwhp just from exhaust alone, but pre-97 NSX have much more restrictive exhaust manifolds.

Thanks in advance.

As I already wrote in another thread:
I added a K&N open intake system and a Fujitsubo exhaust to my former '95 automatic and dynoed it at 272 PS crank power (instead of the stock 256). Acceleration seemed to be slightly better, topspeed was nearly the same as before.

P.S.: You may expect also an increase of about 15 PS (HP) with the manual tranny version.

I doubt you are going to find any dyno result for pre 97 NSX with exhaust being the only modification. It’s not cheap to dyno, so I don’t think anyone would spent that money just to see the HP gain from that exhaust, You will definitely find some dyno result of pre 97 with H/E/I.
If you are planning on getting an aftermarket exhaust in hope to gain HP, from my experience (I had a Taitec with OEM header) the car does feel like it pulls harder, but it may very well just be a psychological thing.

really? is your results with oem header? if someone else can back it up the hp gain, I will order exhaust immediately. If there is no noticeable gain with just exhaust alone, I think I would rather use $1200 towards supercharger.

if you plan on puttin a header you might as well just wait and do it all at once.

Thanks for the suggestion, at the moment I do not plan on getting header, at $1700 not including labor for installation, I would much rather use this fund towards Supercharger first and maybe do the header later.

You cannot undo an overall restrictive system by only removing one part of the restriction. i.e. in order to realize HP gains, in a pre-97 you must replace both the header & exhaust. Either one alone will not do much.
In a 97+ however, the header already has improved flow vs the pre-97, so the exhaust by itself will yield results.

I think you would find the supercharger would work even more effectively to expel the additional charge volume through a free-er flowing exhaust system i.e. do it first before you consider a 'charger.

Thanks, although fact. this is exactly what I am afraid to hear:frown:

now I understand there will be virtually no hp gain just doing exhaust alone for pre-97 NSX. I am glad I asked before making the purchase, otherwise I would be really disappointed with my unrealistic expectations. I will likely still make the purchase, just with much lower expectations.

would I actually lose some low end torque by replacing exhaust without replacing headers at the same time?

Yes, I didn't change the headers, just the intake (K&N cone filter). I have to admit that I didn't dyno the car before the operation, only afterwards, so I only had the factory specs as baseline. Nevertheless I liked the car better with the exhaust and intake because of the sound (I was a bit younger these days)
