My friend says that if u have aftermarket guages on the A pillar and a cop sees them hell pull you over and ull get a ticket or something. It sound rediculous but i want to get them and i dont want to deal with the cops. Sooo if anyone has them can u let me know if uv ever been pulled over? Thanks

There was a police bulletin posted about 8 months ago, perhaps on a different forum, which said cops would be on the lookout for cars with apillar guages, as a sign the car had been modified. It's not the guages that are illegal, it's what they're usually there for (illegal engine modifications) - the presence of such guages was said, in the bulletin, to be grounds for checking your engine to ensure it had not been so modified.

Personally, if I were looking to install guages in an nsx, I would look at mounting them in the console, using the cluster gruppe m guage for boost, or possibly mounting them in a nav pod - pillar guages are a bit too 'look at me' for my taste.

hahaha but it loooooks soooooooooooooooo good. I am superchargerd but it is 50 state legal the only thing thats illegal is my exhaust. Decibals are a lil over.

The pillar gauges are a bit "17 yr old riceboy"... and not really the escense of the NSX.

I dunno if they're illegal by law, but they are illegal by taste :p

To each his own... I think it looks cool. I'm having the CF A-Pillar gauge pod installed with my CTSC at Autowave. A local upholstery shop is going to cover it to match the stock interior - and the gauges I've selected will match the NSX gauges (black face, black bezel, red needle, and red lighting.) I think it will be rather fitting of the spirit if a legally modified NSX.

And besides, "not really the essence of the NSX."... your NSXPrime avatar is a Ferrari!

I too once thought the A pillar gauges looked ricey. BUT, the NSX lacks real estate...didn't care for the "tumor like" look of the center console pod.

Instead, I did the Defi electroluminescent gauges on the A pillar...looks killer IMO. Don't drive the car much but have not been pulled over "yet"...knock knock.

I'm not sure if this applies to other locations but in Hawaii any visible blue or red lights within the car can warrant a ticket. This is due to the possible distraction it may cause to other motorists as well as using emergency colored lights. (I personally asked a cop because I too was curious about this question) So if they're not blue, red, or not too bright I think you'll be okay.

I bought the Spa gauges from SoS and it is orange. I believe you can choose orange or green (not sure about the green). My mechanic changed the light to match the interior.

As for the A-pillar thing, I used to be against it because I didn't want to be a "ricer" but since putting it in, I absolutely love the location of it simply because of how easy it is to read and it doesn't take that much space.

My Defi gauges are orange needle/black face but are significantly brighter (a la the lexus) than the oem NSX gauges. I still would do it again though.

It has peak warning levels and memory as well. It's not ricey IMO since it is functional

In other words, if you can't afford a CGT, 996 TT, Enzo, Lambo, etc etc, you can not build your own. Thats a bunch of BULLSHIT!!

do they make after market guages with the same orange light that the dash guages have

Yup! The Defi BF gauges that I have match the OEM amber light pretty well. You can also control the brightness of the gauges via the Defi Control Unit, which is necessary to run the BF gauges. There is a cool record/playback feature that also allows you to view up to 3 minutes of recording time.
