I want to learn how to drive the car properly but a lot of events nearby (4 hour range) are for intermediate etc...

This is rather frustrating. Anyone ever have this trouble? I'm having the toughest time just getting started here....

No.

Almost all the drivers school events I'm familiar with, are as appropriate for total beginners as they are for more experienced drivers.

I know the groups that have been recommended to you and hold drivers schools at tracks in your part of the country, groups like BMW CCA, Car Guys, NASA, etc. All of these have in-car instruction and will put all beginners in a run group together.

These programs are NOT limited to intermediate drivers and above. Perhaps you are misinterpreting something?

No.. I think i just have bad timing. I never realized how 'in advance' you have to be to get into these things. I've made a whole spreadsheet of all the places around me and their costs, event, etc. Hopefully I'll finally get into something.

thanks,

Quick PS edit: As far as BMWCCA, isn't it a lil weird driving your nsx at a bmw event?

just curious...

That's true. And you have to find out what "the system" is at different events. Some of them accept people first come, first served. Some of them have a "first postmark date", where they only accept applications with a specific postmark date or later, and then do first come first served - so people try to get their applications postmarked on that particular day.

As events start to fill up, sometimes they only have spaces remaining for specific run groups.

No, not really. Sure, most (maybe 75 percent) of the cars at their events are BMWs. But not all, and most of the folks there respect the NSX.

Some marque clubs (e.g. PCA) require that you own their car in order to join their club. BMW CCA doesn't.

Sign up for the First Settlers PCA three day event at VIR in May.

http://fst.pca.org/May04DERegForm.doc

Great group of folks, good classroom instruction, many different makes of cars, and very inexpensive for a three day event. You run the north course, which isn't as fast as full course, but may be a little more crowded as it is shorter. ;North course is a very technical course, which will either teach you many car control skills, or scare you too death:D Not really. It is a very good course to learn on.

Private me if you have any questions.

Not at all I thought the same at first, but they welcome you with open arms. A lot of the instructors have non-BMW cars as well. I look at it this way......I always wanted a BMW, and after hanging with these guys for 6 years, I WILL be buying one as a daily driver. It is a win/win situation for the BMWCCA. (1) they get the non-owners to help keep costs down for the track rental, and (2) it spreads the BMW interest to these non-owners, possibly helping BMW to sell more cars etc.

On a side note I am also a member of the Alpha Romeo club in Chicago, and at the RA event, it is about 10% Alphas, 90%"other marques"!!! This helps the small club afford the track rental and in return us non-alpha people get to attend one of the most fun timed events held at the track! (note: not reccomended for beginner drivers - not a school event)
