And now, it's dead.

Oh.. poor fish, but hows the taste of a 115 yrs old fish? And what if u can live to 115 yrs old after u ate this fish?

Reminds me of that 3 eyed fish from The Simpson's.

Don't get too mooshy over the fish here - it probably would've died even if they identified it immediately and threw it back into the sea. Something that old living at that depth with all that atmospheric pressure on it being dragged to the surface would almost certainly suffer internal issues beyond repair. May as well learn something from it at that point. Don't get me wrong - It's not that I lack sensitivity - it is a shame that this fish lived so long only to die at the hands of anglers. But be realistic - it wasn't as if the fisherman intended to kill a historic fish. And look at the bright side - we have now identified an old species as being alive and well in the area. So let's not go overboard with the "poor fish" senario... this may turn out to be a valuable research tool that could not only identify an old species as one that is still around - but it may offer insight as to how it (and other species) survive under brutal conditions.

Well, the fish lived 115 years, but at least it finally got it's 15 minutes of fame.

That is the most perfect caption for this story.
