Another ebay scam

Ugh, it's this type of crap that keeps me from considering buying a vehicle online (more specifically ebay). What a shame.

What's even more annoying is that I reported it to Ebay early this morning and the ad is still up there 5 hours later.

Just went to: help > security center > report another problem > report problems with other ebay members > fraud concerns for buyers > report a listing you think is fraudulent (you didn't bid) > email > Enter the item number(s) that you wish to report: then hit submit.
Easy as pie! Really, they should make it easier than going thru all that!

I sent him an email;

Bring the car to my house and I will pay you twice the buy it now price. I bet you can't because this auction is a scam. A very poor attempt at a scam.

So let me see if I have this right- because he did not travel from Az to NY to deliver his two used tires, he is a theif. Or, if he didn't respond to your letter on your schedule, his silence convicts him. What if he were out of town, or busy, of just didn't care to respond. Is that a Crime on Prime?

Those tires were exactly as shown in the photo, and available as listed in the auction. They were off my car, and the seller is a very good friend of mine.
Somebody got a killer deal.

I am embarressed at how may people jumped on the bandwagon.

You must be on drugs. If not you need to be! The only tires I saw were tires on a NSX which was being auctioned with a buy it now that was way too low.

Mark,
The auction talked about here was an NSX that was for sale for buy it now price of 8500 dollars. (now an invalid item) It also had something about an F150 in the listing.

Reply email I received

Hello there,

Thank you for your interest in my car. I want you to know that I have closed
my auction earlier because someone has offered me the buy it now price, but
didn't have all the money available and I cannot accept financing because
time is a real issue for me. The price I want to obtain for it is $8,600US
(this price includes shipment and insurance charges).

My wife was recently promoted so we had to move in Greece. We brought the
car with us, wanting to register it here, but I couldn't because it is a US
vehicle and to get it registered here it will need serious engine
modifications in order to comply with the EU emission standards. So that is
why I prefer to sell it quick now and get rid of it while I still can,
because time is running and I can't keep it like that, there is a deadline
term when I must pay the import tax, so I can't afford to lose time and I
prefer to make some money while I still can.

The car is like new, completely working,89600 miles, 1993 model. It is US
model with US specs and passed the US test emissions. The car is insured in
case of damage and you will receive it in 8-9 working days by Lufthansa at
your home address. The title is clear and you will register it in your state
without problems. I will send the car having written on it 'gift' so you
won't have to pay any additional taxes. It will come with all the papers
(warranty, insurance etc. ...).

The shipping costs and the insurance taxes of the package will be down to me
and you only pay for the money transfer commission when you wire the funds,
which is about 4% from the total amount sent.

I am requesting a $4,000US refundable deposit prior shipping and the balance
to be paid after delivery and inspection. If you are not 100% content with
the car, you will ship it back on my expense to get your deposit back. I am
sure this will not happen, because it is a state of the art vehicle and you
will have no reason not to be content with it.

This is a large purchase and I would like to use a third party for this
transaction as I want a smooth and safe transaction. We will use Square
Trade, I have completed a lot of successful deals using them. I have a
purchase protection account of $10,000US with them. If this is your first
time using Square Trade here are their terms: if you will not receive the
car exactly as advertised or you won't receive it in 15 days since you made
the deposit, Square Trade will refund you from my Square Trade account.

If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, home and
shipping address and your ebay id so I can register the transaction with
Square Trade asap.

Regards,
Rod

Ahahaha so you sent him an email saying it was a scam and that's what he replied with?!?!

Frickin idiots... but that sad part is, people fall for this crap and that's why they do it. Ugh

I replied

Rod,

I will send payment as soon as pigs fly out of my ass. It would make me very happy if you could please hold your breath waiting for payment.

Sincerely,
Not your fool.

Can these jerks be nailed legally in anyway attempting to fraud people? Or is it only after the fact?

This is ridiculous. And what pisses me off even more is they are using our NSX as the bait and subconsciously giving it a bad name :frown:

Steveny, I need to get my artificial horizon checked. As ANYTIME was trying to point out to me, I was posting to the wrong thread. It was my intention to post that to a thread about some tires on e-bay. I saw the e-bay tag, and didn't read carefully. My comments stand to that situation.

nb- I'll get my synthroid level checked, thank you.
