I don't know how bad an air suspension would ruin the handeling of the car, but for those of us who want a low car but need to raise it up for the occasional speedbump/pothole/driveway it seems like it might be a possible idea. Just wondering if anyone else has thought about this...

Please don't hurt me...

I've thought about it. I don't think an air suspension is the way to go without ruining
handling. You might be able to add something with air or hydraulics to raise up when you need it, and not affect the car when not in use. I think that's how the few I've seen do it.

My goal, someday, would be to develop a real hydraulic suspension (not low-rider stuff) that is designed for the car, and would preserve or improve handling, while giving adjustability. I think it's possible, but I never seem to find the time for large projects....

That would seems ideal... But air might not be completely out of the question. Something like the Praxis system looks interesting. It’s just under $3000, but I think it’s only available for the M3 and WRX. Maybe you can work on adapting this system to the NSX. ;)

Interesting. But not completely controllable from inside the car:

With a push of a button and turn of the external shock adjusters, Praxis allows the driver to control the level of performance.

(I'm an all or nothing kind of guy sometimes  ) I bet something like this would be great for a lot of people, though.

When I was at Sorcery in Japan there was a NSX with air suspension called "Robertas"(SP?) unfortunately it was on a hoist getting the scissor door conversion so couldnt demonstrate.
