Anyone ever install seats with head protection?

I'm wondering if anyone has seats in their car with head protection. These should theoretically give you a lot more protection in an accident on both street and track, why are they not more popular? Do they not fit? I think john@microsoft had one. I sat in a few the other day and was surprised at the amount of visibility I had. Not bad at all. You can see to your side and slight rear just fine. It's a hard rear turn where you see some visibility blocked.

just my observation, looks like it would be tough to see around when backing up or having to quick check the lane next to you....

It's not that bad at all. I have tried several. Depends on style but some of them you can see pretty well through.

I like em, but not for the street.

Why not? For a non daily driver and part time track car I think they'd be allright. Do you dislike the look or the slight loss of vision?

They look great, high bolsters and low seat profile would track nicely. I think the head protection would become bothersome on the street because you do so much more scanning, than on the track, that you'd have to move your head around too much. My $.02.

Yeah maybe a little but do you know how much protection they offer your head in any side impact? Helmet or no helmet?

little tough to get in and out of the car but body support is excellent. Lowest position possible with these BRIDE lowmax seats which gives room for helmet as well.

We've used the Recaro Pro Racer seats for some time. These seats are intended for track use to provide some side protection. This is beneficial especially when using the HANS device, which provides forward neck protection, but not side-side. We use this in our white track car and in the silver car for the Modified Magazine event.

Is this your seat? Which model is it?

Chris so these recaros fit ok? Can the seat go all the way back? Does it sit nice and low? I am barely fitting with my helmet and a Dali-style cushion on the factory seat. I tried the larger recaro and it was the most comfortable of all the seats I have tried.

What seats are these?

These are Porsche GT-3 recaros, very expensive, but they don't really have head protection IMO.

Yes, they fit great. Keep in mind, these are definitely not for street use (does not work with factory 3 pt belt.

I don't have a problem using a haress. I am more curious how bad visibility is and how low the seat can mount with your rails.

Look good, but not for a street car for these reasons, IMO:
1) They look really hard to get in and out of easily.. you'd have to lift your whole a$$ up and over that high side to get out (vs just being able to roll out).
2) Don't work with the stock 3 point
3) Reduced visiblity.. Probably not as much of an issue with the NSX as it would be in say a 4 door car..
4) Seat doesn't look like it'll be comfortable for long trips..
