I had a chance to test drive the Audi S4 few months ago and liked it a lot!
The car is juss so fast and smooth;unlike other turbo cars, the S4 doesn't have any turbo lag or it's just too little to notice.
the Quattro 4 wheel drive is amazing too u can feel the 4 wheel stick on the road so hard and feel confident driving it. However, the gearbox is just a joke and the shift distance is soooo long that I felt it took me a sec to shift gear.
anyone had chance race with the S4 in your NSX?

I did race an S4 in an open track in thunderhill, CA. The car is pretty fast. It was really close, we were going about the same speed the whole time. And I know he is a pretty good driver, cause he is one of the instructor.

I also had the opportunity to test drove the car (not on track). And I like it a lot too. I am still waiting for the new M3 to make a decision in getting my next 4 seater.

I'll be honest. I LOVE the S4!! Next to the NSX- (used, obviously)- I would buy this car. I know they're totally different and hard to compare, but what is better than loading two kids in the back and being able to toast most sports cars. That has got to be funny when passing them up! Wave to the nice man kids!
Plus- with any turbo car. You spend an extra $1500 and bump the power from 250 to 320 hp. Safely. Then, I imagine there will be NSX competition.
Just for info. The S4 0-60 is 5.9. Documented in thier brochure.

S4 is a nice car, and if I'm correct the European versions are 300hp and they've had them for years. I hate that they send us the slower stuff (look no further than the M3). Also in Europe they have 400hp S4 station wagons, I can't remember the designation code, oh and don't forget about the twin turbo V-8 A6's (I think they're going to be called S6S's?). Audi makes nice stuff, just wish they sent them to North America.

Jon: I think the one you talked about is called the RS4, and there're some 320+hp S4 running in Vancouver and Richmond areas..there's one with automatic transmission with 320hp, it's like a rocket!
however, NSX still rules all the way~!

If you are looking at fast sedans, you should check out the Mercedes C43 or E55. They are both pretty quick. My C43 has 302 hp and 302 ft/lbs of torque. Great suspension and amazing brakes. 1/4 mile in 14.4 which is only a couple of tenths behind a Mustang GT.

If that's not fast enough, Brabus makes a 5.8L stroker kit that bumps power to 412hp/482 ft./lbs. torque! Not bad for a 'grown up' car.

AND, its built like a bank vault.

C43 is pretty sweet and expensive

S4 comes is that nice yellow

and AWD would seem to make it the perfect all around car....summer or winter....now if it only comes in a convertable....hmmmm....

I also test drove an S4 a few months after they came out, And I liked the car, but it feels real cramped inside and visibility through the windshield is nothing compared to the NSX. My friend races a A4 at club events and I drove his car around some and was not very impressed, the shifter feel and long travel really stink, the handling of Audis is really dead, the steering wheel does not communicate at all because of a four pivot front suspension that they use, but the quattro is pretty cool, you can crank through tight corners at full throttle and the car just sticks without any drama. But I would wait for the new M3.

Yes, the S4 is an awesome car. The interior is excellent, especially the steering wheel! It might be my next car or possibly the new M3. But have you guys ever ridden in a 340HP modified SHO! Now of course the SHO cannot match the Audi in build quality or its driveline but in the fun factor it certainly does. I hate to say it but my 91 SHO is almost more fun to drive than my 92 NSX. First gear is useless (I wish I had all wheel drive) but by second gear on up it hauls. I have raced S4s and M3s (not from a standstill but on the highway) and it is not even close. As wish4nsx said though, for only a small investment, you can have an S4 pumping out 320+HP and have all wheel drive!!! That would almost be the perfect car!

I think S4 is the best sedan for that money
otherwise M5 is my first choice.
I've driven my friend's M5..damn, what can I say? It's got power, look, handling, especially the monster torque!
however, a S4 with airintake, exhaust and chip and some other goodies..it can just run as fast as the M power king (for now, since the new M3's coming out!!)
