audible alarm for overheating question

Last week I luckily checked my oil and temp gauges, to discover the temp was pegged. Shut it down and found it had blown a hose. Its in the shop now having the two main radiator hoses replaced. And checked for any engine damage, things seemed OK before I shut it down but how long it was pegged I really dont know. Which leads me to this thought, does anyone know of a retro fit for an audible alarm that would monitor the temp, and sound when it reached a critical stage, it was just luck that I happened to see the gauge and could have driven on until the engine started to have a melt down.

Best to change all the coolant hoses if you have not done it before. Mine first burst near the radiator, than in the engine compartment and lastly the middle hole under the car. Had all changed with Samco hoses.

I assume samco hoses are better than oem, I was quoted from the dealer $1200.00 to change all hoses. I believe they said there a 11 of them. I decieded to just do the two main hoses for $340.00. I needto find a shop in Dallas I can trust rather than the dealer, or learn to do this stuff myself.

You got hosed

get an aftermarket guage with an alarm. a cheap gauge that has an alarm is prosport.

Yeah,
What do you expect from a dealer, I'm a newby and had the option to tow it home or the dealer? not being that experienced with this new toy I elected to have them do it over the 4th weekend.

no idea why they dont have this on cars already.

with all the stupid stuff they come up with now.. its hard to think they missed it by accident.

personally I think car manufactures want us to blow a head gasket and or put in a new motor. more money for them.

there is no reason why they can not put on a buzzer... or even a voice alert that says "pull over now, your car is over heating / low oil pressure"

over heating and oil pressure. two things that should always have an alarm for.

for many people (me included), keeping their eyes on the road is challenging enough:tongue:
