Barbaro euthanized

I'm sure they got all of the spermies out of him they possibly could.

This is a sad day for horse racing fans.

FYI… unlike Tennessee Walking Horses, Quarter Horses and other breeds, artificial insemination is not allowed by the Jockey Club in breeding Thoroughbreds. The Jockey Club is the breed registry for Thoroughbred racing.

I saw Barbaro run at the Kentucky Derby last year, and I even won a few bucks on my bet for him to win. It's sad that such a beautiful and powerful animal can lose it's life so easily.

I'm not into horse racing but I was surprised how sad I was when I learned of this. I've kind of followed the ups and downs of Barbaro's recovery and I guess a part of me was really pulling for the big guy.

Sad.

I am not a horse racing fan either but an animal lover. I followed all the updates from 8 months agao and was extremely sad when I saw it this morning. I checked earlier in the a.m and he seemed to doing OK but then he was put down. I admire the owners for doing everything they could but if he was going to be in pain that they would have to put him down. I makes me sad as it reminds me too much of my Siamese kitties we had to put down 4 years and 7 years ago respectivily ago this Feb/March. They were my best friends for so long and life has not been the same w/o them. I know now Barbaro is no longer suffering and he will be able to eat all the oats and apples he wants to now and never will feel pain again. Hey, he may even meet my w/ kitties.

RIP........Barbaro

final leg...

At least such an exemplary specimen of a thoroughbred raised awareness amongst the masses on how/what occurs in the world of equestrian sports.

I wonder what the costs were for the ~8-month long treatment stay at the Penn facility?!?
