Battery Choice

I know there has already been a lot of discussion regarding battery choices. My considerations include:

- will be for a 97 daily driver (i.e., don't need a battery that will sit for 12 months and still be able to start the car up)
- economical (hope to spend less than $100)
- weight close to OEM is fine (don't need lightweight since I won't be tracking it, although it would be a bonus)
- currently no aftermarket sound system, but may switch out factory speakers and add a sub at some point

Based on searches I've done, it seems that the Optima red top would be appropriate ($70 at Costco apparently). Please let me know if I'm wrong or if there are other suggestions.

Thanks.

I went through a similar search for my failing Interstate battery. Like you I considered Optima (both red and yellow top) and decided against it as I wanted a lighter, yet as good of a battery. After much research on the Prime it led me to the Odyssey PC680MJ by Hawker. See my response to your other thread here.

I use a Red Top Optima bough at Costco and it works great for me. I even had an aftermarket stereo and amps installed at one point. Many others will probably recomend those ligher weight Oddessey batteries though, but I have no problems with the Optima.

I just purchased a red top from Costco yesterday for one of my Legends. They're actually $99 there (still a good price though).

I don't have the model # handy, but Wal-Mart sells a direct drop in replacement for $40. Comes with a 2 year free replacement and 7 year pro rated warranty. Call me crazy, but unless someone is looking for ultra-super-hyper-lightweight, a battery is a battery......

Can you dig out that model #?

I believe batteries are designated with a "group size". The group size specifies the physical dimensions of the battery and the location of the terminals. Look for a group size 35 battery for the NSX.
