I'm am in the process of lowering my car with a set of Intrax springs. When I had the pass. side front wheel off, I noticed that the tie rod (link?) was bent. I feel a little dumb for asking, but I just want to make sure... This isn't supposed to be this way is it?

If not, I guess the car was previously aligned to make the car go straight. I was going to get another alignment after I finished the spring install, but I can hold off until this piece is swapped out if need be. Thanks --Paul

Paul,

It should be straight. If you hit a curb, you can bend it easily (ask me how I know!!). It can be replaced easily, you will unscrew it from the steering rack (you will need the service manual to see how to do this) and then unscrew it from the tie rod end without removing the tie rod end.

Make sure you also check the tie rod end.

I was surprised that the tie rod was about $40. Definately change the tie rod before the alignment, or you will spend for an alignment again.

Thanks for the info Larry. I just picked up the car in late July and haven't hit any curbs (I'm innocent, I swear!!), but I'd assume that the car had to be aligned in order for it to drive straight (and not destroy my tires quickly). I've only put on a little over 1000 miles so far.

I'll go ahead and swap out the tie rod and inspect the tie rod end for slop. Thanks!!
