Best exhaust for SC'd NSX?

What is the best muffler, performance wise, for an CT SC'd NSX?. Please don't say the Comptech or RM mufflers because I do not like the way they sound, way to raunchy, they kill all the beautiful VTEC soundtrack and replace it with a very blatty, unrefined sound. Is there a good, really free flowing muffler out there that sounds good?.
Anyone tried the Taitec?.

TIA,
S.M.

SORRY RM DTM HERE.ALTHOUGH I HEARD AN AUDIO CLIP SOMEWHERE OF THE TAITEC WHICH SOUNDED HIGHER PITHCHED WHICH SOUNDED GOOD BUT DIFFERENT. GOOD LUCK!!

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear in my original post. I want the best flowing muffler that will make the most power on a high-boost SC'd NSX. That is my #1 concern. A secondary concern is the sound and I'd prefer to stay away from CT and RM as I do not like the way they sound, but if they are going to make more power than all the others I will go that way.
Please don't turn this into the "best sounding" exhaust post.

Thanks
S.M.

Please have a little patience. There will soon be a complete (headers and mufflers) dyno tuned system coming on the market soon. It is from a well known manufacturer. I can answer some questions if you'd like. Except these, who is producing it and who is distributing it.
Questions?

...hmmm... not much to ask...

European, Japanese or American?

The most free flowing exhaust that I've seen to date is the Rapid Race center exit exhaust sold through SoS. It eliminates the cats, and attaches to either the exhaust manifold or headers. It's said to be louder than the Taitec JGTC center exit exhaust. It's actually designed for racing. I know it's not listed on the SoS page anymore, but I'm sure Chris can get it for you. Hope that helps.

Q - What country is it made in?

Q - Will the pipes exit in the factory locations?

Q - What diameter tubing?.

Q- Is it designed for SC'd cars?.

Q - What power gains can be expected over the current offerings on the market?.

Thanks

Good ole' USA
Q - Will the pipes exit in the factory locations?
Yes. With either twin or single tips. Many tips styles will be available. Rolled tips, Angle cut, Intercooled tips, DTM tips, Straight cut, etc.
Q - What diameter tubing?.
Per flow bench, the most efficient
Q- Is it designed for SC'd cars?.
Yes, with a lifetime guarantee
Q - What power gains can be expected over the current offerings on the market?.
Dyno'ed the car stock, will post numbers with new exhaust. Will modify until happy with the results.
Thanks
Exhausts will be available in a "race version", which will eliminate the cats for pre 97 cars. All of the exhausts will be made of stainless. Titanium, which is approx. 75% less in weight than stainless,
is also a consideration if cost permits. There will also be different sound levels to choose from. It will be a true dual exhaust, unlike the facory one. Two separate mufflers, similar to the G---pe M.

John Richards

I'd like to see a true "clean-sheet" design titanium race/track dual-exhaust system that bolts right up to the headers. As far as I am aware, the only true dual exhaust system (the front and rear banks never meet) that is anywhere near street legal as far as sound levels are concerned is the $3,000+ Gruppe M, and I don't think it's titanium.

We can have the race exhaust put on your CTSC NSX and do some dyno pulls before and after. You can also show up to the CalCoastalNSX meeting for some demostrations. Sound clips can also be made.

While lighter by volume, the strength of titanium is what contributes most to lighter exhausts through the use of thinner cylinder walls. Some of the new high strength alloys being used by manufactures, such as TAITEC, allow for lighter exhausts. For example, the new GT Competition exhaust is only 4 lbs heavier than an ARC Titanium exhaust.

The Rapid Race exhaust is no longer produced by TAITEC, and is no longer available.

I have been VERY happy with the JGTC Center-Exit exhaust on my car, and I believe it to be one of the best tuned semi-street exhausts on the market, which a well known tuner agrees with. TAITEC has spent tremendous amounts of cash and time on developing exhausts by dynoing the exhaust segment by segment to achieve the highest usable output.

The TAITEC exhausts were developed on NA cars, hence, the warranty does not cover use with forced induction (which is the same policy by all the exhaust manufactures, with the exception of Comptech I believe). I am running the JGTC exhaust, and there is another GT exhaust being used on supercharged NSXes, so we should have some data on reliability over time.

Regards,

Well I still don't have much info to go on. The new system that ANYTIME is telling us about sounds interesting but I don't really have enough details to make me want to wait X months. The Taitec is a cool looking unit but the smallish 52mm tubing makes me think it could be a touch on the restrictive side for an SC'd car with 8+psi of boost and no cat-converters. I really don't want the nasty sounding CT exhaust, are there any other options?. What is the Gruppe M muffler all about? ARC?.

Thanks
S.M.

Where can I find a picture and more info about the TUBI for the NSX. They sound great on F355's!.

The Gruppe M seems very nice, anyone have pics or feedback of the muffler on a car?

I run ARC test pipes/exhaust and love it. The GruppeM and Taitec also sound very good with a higher pitch then the others. From what I hear there will be other choices for exhaust in the near future.

bboxer,

Wow! The Tubi exhaust looks GREAT! Those are the best pictures I've seen to date. I was impressed by the sound clip that Ilya posted but am even more impressed now that I've seen how it really looks. The double wall construction on the tips gives it a real finished look. What a work of art.

I think the Group Buy that Ilya got going that saves you over $500. is a one time opportunity I wouldn't want to miss.

Can't wait to get mine!!!!

Toni, about a week ago I forwarded you a question from another interested party if the TUBI exhaust that was part of the group purchase was for pre and post 97 models years? Any feedback?

OK, there has been a lot of interest and a lot of questions regarding the new Anytime Racing exhaust systems. There will be two different systems, each based on the same basic design. This is a totally clean-sheet, true dual-exhaust design that happens to fit the stock NSX exhaust form factor perfectly. It’s a similar system as used in the current Corvette C5’s. Here is a spy shot of the first prototype setup before final assembly, so that you can get an idea of how it works:

<img src=http://www.1017.org/anytime/AnytimeProto.jpg>

The two cans will be welded together to fit perfectly in the stock exhaust location, so it will look like one large can, but will actually be two separate chambers. We have not yet finalized the tips design or weather it will be single or twin tips. The system is being made by a major (household name) exhaust manufacturer, and will be sold exclusively through Anytime Racing in much the same way that B&B makes exhausts for RM Racing.

There will be an unconditional lifetime / million mile warranty that IS NOT voided simply because you use forced induction or nitrous or whatever. These systems are being developed right now on supercharged cars. Unlike everything else out there, they will be optimized and designed specifically for forced induction use. Dyno testing is going on right now, and should be done by the end of next week.

There will be two different versions. The flagship race model will be all-titanium, and bolt right up to the headers, without provision for cats. We may have a bit of flex pipe at the flange for flexibility, depending on the initial beta test reports. The race model is technically not street legal, because there is no provision for cats, but the exhaust note will not be so loud as to get you pulled over. We are engineering it to meet the new sound regulations in place at Laguna Seca.

The Street version will be set up essentially the same way as the race version, but will be made of stainless, and will work with the stock cats.

The first batch will fit 91-94 cars. Later perhaps next month, we will start on a version to fit the later cars.

Please, Please be patient. Like the new Basch Boost supercharger, I promise this exhaust will be worth waiting for. We are living in exciting times with new products such as these coming out in the near future. We will have our new website up in about a week at www.anytimeracing.com Please stay tuned for pictures, dyno charts, sound clips, and the like.

We plan on having a car fitted with a prototype exhaust, along with dyno charts at the next CalCoastalNSX meeting.

"Mystique" ususally is the result of something. In the case of Tubi, it is the quality and the sound plus its history and experience. It is not without reason that Ferrari, Lambo, Ducati and others have worked with Tubi for decades. Look at the material used, the welds, the alignment, the finish and then judge the sound and you will understand why some exhausts are worth the extra money.

With John's permission I would like to contribute to this discussion.

The "Anytime" duel exhaust system is now being developed by Industry leaders using state of the art technology in a state of the art facility for both normally aspirated and forced induction engines.

I have lent John my car for R&D purposes and was present for the initial R&D meeting with the manufacturer. I can say that John is determined to produce and market a new and unique exhaust and header "System" that will out perform the quality, function, warranty, fit and finish of other existing systems currently available on the market in a true duel exhaust configuration.

The new systems will include street and race configurations matched to a newly engineered header system for optomial performance. Both the street and race exhausts will ultimately be available in duel or single tip with a wide choice of tips available.

The proto-type headers along with the street or "Cat back" version should be available to see installed on my car at the Dec 20th Cal Coastal Meeting in Calabasas. The race version with the cat's removed may also be available at that meeting on a supercharged car if production time allows.

As I have some insight into this project, I believe that this is a product that will be worth waiting for and as for those of you who know John, know that he will stop at nothing short of perfection with this project.

Good luck John, hope to see my car again some time soon.

Hey ANYTIME, do I hear........Borla?!?!. Hmmm, well I am not an exhaust designer but I hope the system sounds good. Often two seperate uneven cylinder banks (think Viper RT10, 300Z TT without X-pipe, Firefly 3cly, Audi 5cyl)) sound very stange (read not that good!).

So far I am leaning towards the Gruppe M, any owners out there to give me some feedback?

Thanks

Easy!!! Let's let the exhaust be built before anyone jumps to conclusions.

Alex Vizcarra([email protected]) can tell you more about it since he has it on his car. It is in the 3200 dollar range(depending on exchange rate). You're wise to ask for feedback from others.

Let's look at the positives here:
Lifetime guarantee (Forced induction included)
True dual
Available in single or twin tips(many to choose from)
Street or Race (eliminates cats)
Stainless or titanium (race only at this time)
Local company (solves warranty issues)

Just trying to help out the local NSX community in getting a unique, dyno tested, lifetime warranteed product. If anyone has any suggestions anything in particular that they would like, feel free to contact me or post replies.

Cordially,
John Richards

John (ANYTIME), yes you are right, I should and will wait to see the results. After having 3 different mufflers and two different sets of headers on the same SC'd NSX I will offer up a few suggestions:
-Make it 30lbs or less
-Make the tips large diameter all the way back to the can so when you see the car from the rear/side you don't see fat tip, then small tube...looks cheap
-Make it so that it's not unbearably loud if used with no cats
-Make it large and free flowing. There are lots of systems out there that cater to the NA crowd but very few that are really for forced induction cars. The market is big and growing daily (thanks to Mark B).
-Please try to "tune" the sound to keep some of the smooth, high pitched VTEC sound and not just the loud, unrefined, blatty sound of all the US built systems on the market.
-Make sure it sits perfectly centered on the car!. Both my DC and CT mufflers are off!.

I'll try to think of more
