Would fly into Denver so something along the 70 trail is preferable.

Going with the wife so something nice but not too nice. Looked at Vail and hotels were like $600 / night up which is more than I care to spend.

Anyone know of any deals out there?

This would be over Xmas.

I've skiied all over CO and some parts of CA. I prefer Telluride in CO and Tahoe in CA for a mix of the skiing quality and surrounding areas/restaurants/activites/etc.

Telluride isn't cheap though, but honestly I don't remember how much the difference was between more 'popular' places. I'd rather spend another 100$ a day for lodging/lift tickets combined and not have to wait in lift lines.

Heavenly is pretty fun in Tahoe but again not the cheapest of the bunch.

Winter Park, Loveland, Breckenridge....

+1 on Winter Park, although the Keystone/Arapaho Basin/Breckenridge Summit Pass is a great deal as well.

I have been in CO to ski many times. Breckenridge and Beaver Creek are my preference.
I have skied in WA, UT, CO, Jasper, Banff, Whistler, Italy, and Switzerland.

Bever Creek is right up there in quality of runs, lifts, and of course snow quality. My wife and I just loved it there. You can ski all day and seldom ski the same run twice.

Try and find a condo that owners rent out. great savings compared to hotels and just a close to the ski runs.
West Vail is a good spot to look for such condos.
$250 / night for up to 4 people.

I did some skiing at Eldora Resort near Boulder last year. It's a small mountain, but it doesn't get super crowded. Not much nightlife there though.

I have to agree with Warren here. Beaver Creek is about as good as you are going to get. The mountain is vast. There are tons of runs, lines are not too long. And the snow is as good as anyplace else. Excellent place to ski.

Fly into Colorado and then drive to Utah.

What are you looking for in a ski area or resort? Seeing as how people are recommending Eldora (lol), you need to be more specific. Like, Winter Park strongly favors bump skiing and with next to zero nightlife. A Basin is good only for off piste skiing, and in late season. Telluride, Steamboat and Aspen are great all-around areas, but are tougher to get to. Sometimes tohelluride doesn't get snow in the early season, so when are you thinking? What is your budget? For a cant-go-wrong skiing experience, Vail can't be beat in CO and can be done cheaply if you are willing to stay 20 away from the ski area. Copper is also a nice all around place, but lacks any resort feel. Lots of questions...PM me if you want the skinny on CO skiing.

Looking for a place to spend 2-3 days doing some light skiing (greens and blues) then have some place to relax (hot tub, fire pit, bar) in the evening. Nothing more than 3-4 hours drive from the Denver airport.

Yes, Utah would be nice but flights are crazy expensive from MSP.

Tickets are cheap to Denver because nobody wants to go there. (I'm kidding!)

Almost all resorts in Utah are about an hour (max) away from the airport though.

I haven't been to ski in CO in years but from what I remember Copper Mtn. was fun too. I used to go to Winter Park the most.

Compared to Utah all these resorts seem bland to me now. Come here instead.

Alta is my favorite ski hill on the planet. By far.

For good greens and blues, Keystone, Copper, and Vail are all good. Breck can be cold and icy. I would stay in Silverthorne, which is centrally located for those resorts and has lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. It's cheaper than staying right on the mountain but is only a 10-15 min drive to the ski areas (30 to Vail). You can usually save a few bucks on lift tickets by purchasing them at King Supers grocery stores. have fun!

THE MINT in silverthorne.... diy steak:biggrin:good eats:biggrin:
wot ski said applies... travel to telluride w/ wife may be a challenge.
have fun!!
