Hello everyone,
I'm about to purchase a set of bilstein shocks from dali and have them installed by hilltop in daly city, don said it may take a full day to swap out. Any other places that I can get quicker and less install hours? Thanks.

If you're running stock shocks now, it's no surprise he quoted you a full day. OEM shocks are a pain in the @ss to mess with. I've read people taking from 4 hours to 8+ hours to just remove the stock setup. It took me the 8 hours.

Hopefully someone can find a shop with some tricks up their sleeves to get it done for you.

Don is quite well versed in the NSX suspension I'm sure he knows exactly what to do and how to do it. Perhaps it'll take a full day because of a high work-load that day? Or is he actually going to bill you eight hours labor?

I'm not sure at this point. I may endup having my shocks replaced at hilltop since I always bring my car there for service anyway. But to know an alternative is always a plus.

Yeah, you might find a shop that will quote you less time - but only if they've never done it before.

Take it to the guy who does it all the time. Take it to Don. He's not going to take any longer than anybody else.

The Fronts are not so tough..the Rears?...They are much harder...there is also is a risk of damaging the outer CV boot with the lower end of the absorber if you are not careful...I have seen a few cars that needed new CV boots after rear absorbers were changed by shops that were not familiar with NSXs.

Also the upper control arm must be taken loose from the subframe and the suspension must be loaded up inorder to get the bolts back in straight, the subframe is Alm and can easily be cross threaded, I have seen that too.

Make sure someone that is well versed in NSX suspension work does the install.

We recently did an install on an '01 and this was the biggest issue we had. It took forever to get the bolts lined up again when we re-attached the control arm. It was so nerve-wracking that we just compressed the whole assembly to get the other side out so we could leave the control arm attached. This ended up being WAY easier, and faster. :)

Don is very good with the NSX, and I have had most if not all my work done there. I never have a problem with his work. Another option that you may want to try is Auto Innovations in Milpitas. (408)956-8004 and tell Steve or Orlando that Jackson sent you. I had my Bilsteins installed there and had them do an alignment at the same time. They also do very good work and most members here that used their services have nothing but good things to say about their work.

I've I EVER have to replace an oem setup again but on a future nsx (maybe), I'm just gonna wrap drill a hole into the shock body to release pressure, wrap the area in a welding blanket, put a fire extinguisher on stand by and PLASMA that sucker off! Zip Zip Zip! Out in seconds! Chop a few sections in that coil spring or chop that shock body! No mess, no fuss, no problem!

Thanks, I will definitely keep this in mind, perhaps I should print out this page to make sure.

I ought to visit Auto Innovations since I'm only 25 min away. I've heard of them and their good work before. I will mention your name too Jackson. Btw, how is your ride with bilstein?

Do a search on Dali and check his reputation before you buy.
Here is a better deal with free shipping

Steve,
Thanks for the info. I've already bought them from Dali, about the same price as ebay. X-fingers, I have better lucks with Mark Johnson so far, and the shocks are on their way too.

Brian@nopi has a great deal on the Bilsteins at $120ea.

DocL,
Also thanks for the info. I checked but did not find any discount for bilstein. Anyhow, it always good to know more sources online.
