Brake rotors - do they make a difference for HPDE?

I have a stock 2001 and I do a couple of HPDE sessions per year. I understand the value of big brake kits, but I'm not interested in doing significant mods. I have been running Project Mu track pads with stock rotors. Unfortunately, in my last session I went through the pads and slightly grooved one of the rear rotors. I should be able to have the rotors turned and be back in business with just new pads.

Question - should I consider slotted or cross drilled rotors in addition to track pads? Do they make a noticeable difference vs. stock rotors on the track? It looks like Science of Speed has a couple of options for around $500 to $600 for a full set. Any opinions on slotted vs. cross drilled? Any suggestions on pads? SoS has Hawk and Carbotech.
