Broken Kinesis...

Hey All-

Wanted to share my sad story with you and, perhaps, get some input/advice.
Washing my wheels one day, I notice that one of my rear (18x10 +45) Supercups has a spoke that is completely cracked in half. Brief history of this set of Kinesis. Born in 1999 specifically for my car (by previous owner) and approimate mileage on them would be about 35-40k. Never tracked but well potholed (mainly a California car) and not really driven very aggressively a lot!!
Very much standard wear and tear on a high quality/priced racing wheel that is capable (or should be) of much much more. I called Kinesis and I spoke with Alan and he has been as helpful as he can be considering 1. They no longer make the wheel and 2. those were custom made for this car and, to my knowledge, there aren't too many more out there that would match. He offered to look at their storage facility for another center (by chance - a low 1 out of 10) and offered a generous discount on a brand new set of Kinesis wheels (K57/58 are nice).

Long story short, (too late) I have been rolling my 15/16 stocks for a while now and really miss the look of 17/18 customs but am enjoying the lightweight/spin fast feel.

What to do??
Here's where my head's at:
1. Best case scenario - I would rather keep the Cups (financially speaking) so I hope Alan finds the center. (breath not held)
2. Buy 2 new Supercups at $1700+ (I believe a Porsche site may have some 18s left but I don't know if Porsches have the same bolt pattern). help.
3. Buy a whole new set of wheels (slightly more than $1700) that offer me lightweight fun but with a certain "multi-piece" flair. All the while lamenting over the three coffee tables (i.e. remaining SuperCups) I am stuck with that get sent to pasture (i.e. family room). [Kinesis doesn't want them either]

Questions:
Would any 18" SuperCup center with our bolt pattern fit in there or are those built individually to spec/offset?
Who wants to sell me 17/18 wheels (used maybe/new hopefully)? Or offer expertise/opinion on some lightweight good lookers.
I love 5-point stars with some lip generally like GramLights Pro and Work Equips but have found myself intrigued lately by multi-spokers like the Volk GT-7
Who wants my SuperCups? Would/can they do someone/anyone some good?

Looking forward to the happy ending. Thanks for "bearing" with me and for any input that you may feel relevant or helpful. Happy trails!!!

porsche center will surely not fit.
5x130mm

We have 5x114.3mm lug pattern

If you can get a set of Kinesis at a discount.. I would do it. Kinesis is cool wheels. Check out some of their current design.. they look top notch.

hopefully they can fine an extra center for you.

Thanks for the info and the good wishes!

Thanks!!!!! First off, I am cautious/nervous to repair a broken spoke and then expect it to handle everything reasonably thrown at it. Hasn't the structural integrity been irreversibly compromised?? Hope I'm way off on that thinking! Also, that web site is "for sale"! Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again, Leonard. Just the type of help I was hoping to get (and knew I would)!!

fiwing the wheel will make it as strong as it ever was but i beleive the super cups are cast, which will make it HARD to fix......I have had many set of kinesis and Alan is a great guy...
just wondering what would you want for them?

I believe you're right too. The centers are cast. Alan had mentioned that to me as well. As far as how much I would want for the crippled SuperCup set, I will PM you after I feel that all possibility of reviving the set somehow is lost. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the feedback.

Does it really make that much difference? The Kenesis wheels looks amazing.

The Gramlight 57pro looks great, this pic does not do it justice:

GT-7 is nice as well.

For ultimate lightweight forged wheels, CE28N is the lightest forged aluminum wheels. These looks sweet on NSX.

Thanks for the feedback and pics. I have a decent deal set up on the GramLights if I go that route. In reference to my stocks and how they feel: Well the difference is there. The car just feels better and more ready to go and go faster simply because, for example, the rear SuperCups are around 16 pounds each (including S0-3 tire of course) heavier than my stocks. disclaimer: I used a bathroom scale.

My first hope is to resume with the SuperCups for both financial and personal reasons. Repair is not an option as the center is definitely cast and any attempts to fix it is apparently only temporary, at best. This just in though...
It would appear that any 114.3x5 SuperCup center will very likely fit into my wounded 18x10. Since the center with the SuperCups does not determine the offset (perhaps it does with some custom Porsche applications) it will drop right in. Case in point, last night I measured both of my centers (17" and the 18") and they were identical. So, I need to find 1 (one) SuperCup center (or whole wheel) with our bolt pattern somewhere out there in the world. Alan at Kinesis has nothing for me there. If anyone knows where to go or has a lead, I would really appreciate it!!! I will post in the WTB classifieds here and on every other enthusiast site where they share our bolt pattern.

Thanks all!! See ya!

Terry, four words.....Time for some Volks!!!

Plenty of styles, light wieght and won't break the bank.....sorry to hear you're rollin on stockers... poor baby :frown:

If you really want your wheel...just buy a hub adapter for the broken side...then you could use the porsche wheel...as these were more common porsche applications wheels....then just buy another adapter or spacer to make the other side balance...

I have heard that the Gram Lights are really not light weight at all....any input on this?
