Can you go drifting in an NSX?

No. R&T's SPEED magazine nov./dec. tested 8 cars for driftability, it came in last place.

"Our experts agree, the mid-engined NSX is a hard car to drift."

"Biggest problem is , off throttle, the weight plants. In the drift, as soon as you lift, the car wants to turn around."

"There is no range to its drift, off throttle it goes straight to full lock-it's not progressive, streering is also slow and heavy, it takes too long to countersteer."

Steve Millen-"Try to be aggressive with it and it just...(shakes head)."

3-350Z S-Tune
2-GTO
1-M3 w/comp pac

911-"Even with the rear engine, te weight shift is alot more controllable than the NSX."

"To put it in the same class as the NSX, as a non-front engine car, there is no comparison between the two: the 911 is a delight to drive. You can

feel the weight over the rear tires, pushing the car forward."

"Despite fifteen year old technology, the NSX was still fun to drive, if not drift."

"The NSX doesn't have a ton of steering angle;with an average of 28.5 degrees, it was the second lowest of the group."

NSX-"You have to be clean. It's the type of car you need to scoot your butt up on the doorhandle, like a go-cart, to know what the car is

doing."-S. Millen

Track with no walls of course.... But is the mid engine possible????

well Keiichi Tsuchiya can =)

and if you watch enough Initial D, you'll SWEAR you can too...

Yes you can,

I must have a videoclip somewhere of TWO NSX's drifting together and side by side on a track. And I am not talking about just drifting through one corner but about drifting the car(s) through every consecutive turn throughout the track.

I don't think they had drifting on their minds when designing the NSX.....Thank God:biggrin:

U can drift just about any thing that is RWD As long as its got enough OOMPH to get tires spinning. My friend took his moms Lincoln LS with tiptronic and drifted the hell out of it  dont drift ur nsx get a 240sx or Miata There cheap and easy to fix. Drifting beats the hell out of ur car, U don’t wont to beat the hell out of ur nsx do u ??

Seeing the Japanese "King Drift" in his blue NSX with 3 spoke Advan wheels was what made me really fall in love with the NSX.

I believe it was an "Option" video.

any video of NSX's drifting?

Search for 'Drift To Miss' and 'NSX' on any video search engine...you will probably find it there. :)

I was leaving work a few days ago in the midst of a HUGE downpour of rain and saw that the blacktop slicked parking lot we have was largely abandoned and ice rink slick.....then this thread came to mind. ;)

The conclusion I came to after repeated attempts to get the NSX to do a nice drift was that it can be done, but it is MUCH harder to pull off in this car than most other rear wheel drive cars. My S2000 can drift very easily and very well, as have some 911's that have passed through my family, but the NSX is more split personality. It is either understeering and preventing you from sliding, or with a little....ummm....'encouragement' from the throttle, spinning around in oversteer and having you face back from where you just came. I did however get a few nice drifts but, again, you are on a sharp knife edge between getting a nice drift going and being on either the understeer or oversteer extreme.

Anyway.....just thought I would offer some first hand insight for you. :)

It is possible to drift the NSX, the easiest way is to use the power over technique with worn tires (Good tires will just grip unless if your going at high speeds), however you must be quick to counter steer and be precise with your steering as well, the mid engine layout causes the weight to shift all to the tail getting it very tail happy and easy to spin out. With practice it is very possible but like other people said, its not the easiest car to do it in.

Good luck

Is it possible? Yes. I used to. Its a waste of money. Go buy a 240

I've heard pontiac GTO's are born to drift. I recall it's been praised even by the japanese drift people.
