Smells fine. But most cars I've seen usually charges at 13 to 14 volts tops.

14.5 - 15 is ok.

it does look high on the gauge.

if you are worried about the alternator, i would uninstall it and get it tested.

autozone can run the test for you free of charge as long as you bring in the alternator.

they will be able to tell you if there is a problem with the voltage regulator inside the alternator.

if the voltage regulator is bad, you can have the option of replacing that piece or getting a new alternator. if you choose to replace that piece, and do all the labor yourself, you will be saving about 200$ off a rebuilt alternator.

as always, any ?, feel free to drop me a PM.

happy motoring.

I will check with a VOM when I get home. What is the highest volt I should see.And if it's over charging could I still drive it for the weekend or do I risk damaging something or ending up stranded on the side of the road.

Volt meter shows 14.78 so I guess my gauge is a little off.On the bright side at least my alternator is fine
