I had been looking for something like BMW nav knob for a while but didn't find anything for PC. Right now I have trackball integrated in to shift knob, but after a year of using it I'm tired of it.

Does anyone knows of any car PC pointing device other then trackball or maybe know where I can get something like it is on this picture? I seen some hooked up integra's with somehow steering wheel controls working with car PC....

Thanks,
Dave

Here's another interesting option I found on mp3car.com:

probably too big to fit in the coin tray (unless you rotated it 90 degrees), but this may be easier to use than the pointer stick. I may pick one up to try it out..

Remind me never to get anywhere near you on the highway.
What's next? A rechargeable electric toothbrush, retractable sink and light up vanity mirror?

This is what I had. It works very well, but I just want to refresh my interior a bit. It is trackball with trigger and left and right mouse click. Controlling AEM ECU was a snap :)

I will go with the track point but will only expose the tip and left mouse button in console. I got all the parts and will post pics after is done :) It is a lot of work but the outcome is nice. I copy mp3 and upload logs from the car wirelessly when car is parked in garage.

When I was tackling this project in a BMW, many moons ago, I found a screen on ebay that used a USB interface, and had a integrated touch screen; instead of running video back to the PC unit you simply had to run a USB cable (which could easily be lengthened with a repeater cable), and provide +12V to the screen for power. No mouse was required, as the cursor would point to where you touched the screen, mouse 'click' was a screen tap.

I think I seen that device you are talking about. Right now I do have 7" tuche screen, but using the tuche screen for AEM maps is not too acurate. It works fine with mediaengine and itunes, but when you want to read logs or just to navigate it, it is little hard. I had voice activated comands working on XP in the car, but it just feels strange talking to the car and I stop using it.

The possibilities with PC in the car is with out limits, my neighbor is busting my chaps that I should get usb biometric to start the car ....
