Hello,

We have noticed that there is quite some interest in a carbon fiber T-top.

We would like to get a more accurate view of potential interest and some input from NSX-T owners.

The basic idea is to make a carbon fiber t-top for the NSX-T there are two options a complete targa top in cf (would look good and be a bit lighter) or a overlay (would look good but gives no advantage except cost wise)

The T-Top would of course be made out of high quality carbon fiber.
We have bean talking to some carbon specialists and the basic group buy minimum would be 20.

Pricing would depend on number of customers and final design.
We would also like to know what you would like to spend on the full CF top or the overlay.

All input and idea's welcome.

Attached is a small overhead drawing with a carbon effect targa top.

P.S.
Does any one have photo's of the t-top it self and exact sizes.
We have searched our workshop manuals but can't find exact dimensions and photos or useful drawings of the part it self.

I posted this in a second post for easy quoting.
This list is just the check interest and won't mean your signing up for a actual group buy.

..or reasonable price :) I'm in, see above. I know I need to get you the dimmensions!! Ok, I'll try to do it tonight, I promise!
On the overlay and/or the top, I would like to request the the edges get extra strength and protection. For those that put their T-TOP in the trunk, and even if not, the edges get worn out. Doing all the sides with extra layers is not a bad idea b/c sometimes, the sides can get dinged up during removal..

I'd be in for the full roof at a reasonable price! (not cheap , just reasonable)

+1

Remember, there are latches and things to think about... I hope a piece like this would fit right, otherwise we'd be looking at leaks. Might be tough to do from a mold.

Have you seen the factory targa assembly before? The latch mechanism is extremely complex and is not available separately. The machine work to make a billet assembly and the molded rubber gaskets needed would probably make this part in the thousands to duplicate. An overlay may be a more feasible solution - this of course would be for aesthetics only. Just make sure the resins and outer coating are UV stable.

Here you see the targa top in a diagram from Acura.

The larger mid section would be replaced with a CF roof in a full CF T-Top.
This is the best photo we could get there are no better one's.

Let me get this straight. You dont have access to an actual targa panel to make a mold or a car to test it on?

Making a quality panel from measurements only - now thats very optimistic.

Are you saying that the buyer would take all the other bits from his stock roof and put them on your panel?

No,

We are not sure yet how we are going to sell the panel (Complete panel, Overlay, Complete panel/DIY kit) . we are still researching that consumer interest and desire would be major factors in that.

The roof is very complex so we are also considering a overlay as a cost effective option.

If we could get the exact dimensions and some photo's we could start calculating on pricing.

Has anybody thought about shipping costs from the OP's location??
Glass roof+heavy=expensive shipping.
Any one of these somewhat over-sized parts may be expensive to ship guys.
Best be looking into these details before committing to the build.
Defiantely not trying to rain on anybody's parade here....
Just offering advice for both sides!

Its too complex and not worth the effort, it will never look correct and not enough weight reduction, if your want to shed weight look elsewhere and save money. I personally would rather have a see-through glass top with 3-4 inch. black tint on the sides to hide the metal parts.

A glass/plexiglass roof would be pretty cool. Would it be worth hacking apart my stock roof to keep all the parts? Unknown, but for now you have my attention.

Honestly, it's probably a better product than a CF roof (bling only).

Having an all black car, I really don't care either way, would rather have the "sunroof" for those nasty days than some CF overlay.

Yep, I agree that a glass "sunroof" would be the only worthwhile change which brings something new to the car. Whilst CF might look "racey" it's just an appearance change. Letting light into the cab is a mod that you 'll experience while driving. You can't see your CF roof while driving or it's in the trunk......

Wow If you are capable of making one even with price not being an obstacle You would have great respect from DF we make the lotus exige and elise Top's in carbon and frp and it was a challenge the big difference is its 10 times simpler than for nsx . We have looked into it and its just a huge project. Good luck I would love to see some one make one:biggrin:
