Esteemed Keepers of the Rev:

I bought my '95-T about 4 months ago, and at the time the car had a carbon hood. I was a negotiating titan, but a casualty of that feat was the carbon hood. I (or perhaps the car... its mind control is powerful) want to reclaim its carbon identity. The seller still has the hood, a Fiber Images full carbon example with twin vents. Price is negotiable (currently I'm gunning for 750 shipped, which seems fair considering ~1250 new price).

I have also been considering other brands of hood (seibon, SoS, DF, etc.), the majority of which are of the NSX-R bloodline; single vent. I am aware that there are a couple of accessories for these NSX-R style hoods, and may want that future compatibility.

My question specifics: Fiber Images experience +/-? NSX-R style aero effects/capabilities vs. other styles (specifically, spare-tire-volume-consuming accessories directing air in conjunction with underbody aero covers)? Which NSX-R style brands are full carbon? Is there one hood that is the established king?

My advance apologies for improper thread location/ factual foibles, Prime has such vast knowledge that my puny chemical brain struggles to keep pace...

First of all, Congrats on the new car. Second thing, I love your writing style. I'm gonna look forward to your posts from now on :)

I have never heard of your listed brand of hood but it sounds like a version of the Taitec with the two rows of louvres? You'll need to post pics.

Personally I went with the single vent design of the NSX-R, adapted to the pre-'02 front end. I wanted the proven aero advantages, especially paired with the DF front underbody panels and Dali CF rad shroud, which is my setup. I have noticed an effect in front stability at high speeds almost immediately.

My hood is made by Vis, and is cf over frp, which was not very expensive and fitment is good.

A 2007 seller post with a picture of the hood (trying to find one on the car...)

VIS, eh? My roomate is a former 350Z guy (until 3 weeks ago, when he heard the Honda Siren's call and fixed his damn self with an S2k) and that board does not have much love for the VIS company. Interesting to hear the other side of the coin. My engineering spidey-sense definitely was steering me away from FRP/carbon overlay (delamination/fit), but this may be an unfounded, vestigial animal fear.

The aero effects that you describe with your installed mods are exactly what I am looking for (high-speed stability, something the Cops and I agree upon)... and it seems the NSX-R style is the only way to achieve this result (?)

Delamination? No way that can happen unless you are hitting ludicrous speed (spaceballs reference for you young'uns) ;). There is a thread here on the Vis and the consensus is that it's a good bang for the buck. I just wanted the R Type vent with the popups and it was the only real decent choice I could find. Make sure you run hood pins too.

My suggestion is if you want to run the flat underside and direct air over the car, stick to an R type vent. If you are purely going for style points and don't want/care about where the air goes, look around and get the best fitting/coolest looking hood for the money.
