Does anyone know o a source for molded carpet set for NSX's besides dealers? I noticed that none of the carpet makers ( "for every car in the world") don't list NSX's in their product guides.

Dood,

It took Hrant and I six months to make fairly exact reproduction of the Ivory floor mats. (The few remaining are sold by Dali). A really simple job compared to carpet.

The carpets of the NSX are complicated: multiple pieces, hook fasteners, hard plastic inserts and sewn pads. This makes for a very interesting project.

I suspect that you will have to find the OEM company in Japan. Which is very difficult to do anything because of the serious language barrier and the high shipping costs.

The easiest thing would be to find a good local shop and have them duplicate it the best they can. Even more difficult if you are going to do a color change. Dyeing the hard plastic parts is not a good choice, so you will have to source the proper colored parts.

It would be nice if somebody did the leg work on this...I want to change to the red carpet interior. I'm probably going to have to just wait for a rollover 2002+.

Drew is right; and he deserves much of the credit in helping introduce the ivory floor mats. The floor carpeting is a totally different ball game. First, the carpet is of different thickness/pile than what you get with floor mats, and then there is the molding machinery/process and not to mention matching dye colors. I have looked at various options but given the numbers, it is just not feasible.

However, we have custom made floor mats for people who have changed their interior and sent us their carpeting to make floor mats out of them, or custom cut the floor mats to fit interior specs such as subwoofers, etc.

By the way, we still have a supply of ivory floor and trunk mats that we make on custom orders. When we started this project, we had to order a roll of the carpeting from the mill. DaliRacing is one easy venue where you can purchase them, or you can PM me; there is no difference in pricing or cost. DaliRacing hosts my products as a courtesy.

I'm also in need of the RED carpeting for my 2002 Type-R project. If you have a solution, count me in. Thanks.

Thanks for thr replies, guys. I guess one could just buy rolls of auto carpeting, cut it to shape/dimension, and strategically glue it to the floor, as one would do a a hot rod interior.

Previous-previous owner of my car replaced the entire interior of the car from black to grey carpeting. It's aboslutely factory looking and used great material. I am not sure if they're still around, as the car is a 94' and the replacement was done w/in the first ~2 months of ownership from new.

This is the info from the invoice.

That's it! Give up? Stuff worth doing is never easy or quick...

I suspect that Dali or SOS would have contacts in Japan that might be able to refer you to the OEM. Group buy, etc...

Other people need to feed the knowledgebase too....help us all out! You obvously have the need...and a few other people obviously do.

I replaced mine. Easiest way to do it IMO was to just find a great dealer and order the set. I got the complete carpet set (4 pieces), new floor mats, and the left & right door sill plastic with fuse box cover/hood release cover, & triangle piece on the passengers side. As I remember, it was around $1600 and I couldn't be happier. It's all original and the carpet that was meant to be in there. I'd be real disappointed spending even half what I did if I didn't get at least OEM quality & fit.

Does anyone know if a RED carpet set can be ordered for a 2002 from the dealer?

Yes, it can. For part numbers (or, for that matter, to order; their prices are decent), go to Delray Acura's parts website. After entering the car's year etc, the "system/component" to select is FLOOR MAT. Note that part numbers 5, 6, and 7 are the removable parts we think of as "floor mat". Parts numbered 13-16 are the permanently installed carpet parts (even though 13 and 14 are also given the confusing name "floor mat"), and part number 20 are trim clips that are also available in the carpet color.

I am sure you should be able to order as it is an OEM part. Whether a dealer has it in stock/inventory would be doubtful.

Just as an additional FYI/option, we have helped people get that red look by doing custom red floor mats and trunk mats. While the red carpeting accentuates the flooring, the red floor mats add to the red/black or red/tan two tone look in a more subtle way. HTH.

Good job. Note that if you're intent on completing the conversion of your interior to another color, there are additional pieces besides just the carpet, as Deuce B notes. In fact, there are lots more too - the seats, the rear wall, the door trim, etc - and all are available in any of the stock colors, as those parts would come from the factory on cars with that color interior.

How accurate are you going to get? The bottom trim of the center console/dash and the door panels are also red. Very expensive parts.

You can probably get away with not changing out any of this if you have a black interior...but camel and ivory have an incredible amount of color coded pieces everywhere that need to be changed....really adds up.

What are your intentions?

Drew, trying to get a reasonable red color as offered by the Type-R OEM carpet set. So I'm looking for more than just the mats. If someone could dye my existing 2002 black carpet interior, that would work...

Ahh yes, the elusive JDM Carpet Mod..

Clothing dye at Wall mart- $2.99
Hours spent cleaning the bath tub- priceless

Unlikely you can dye black carpet. (If you wish: trade me for my ivory: it should dye better, but I can't imagine it turning out great either.)

The hard plastic has to be sprayed (they call it dying, but it's not) and the color easily scratches off.

Yeah, cleaning the tub would be priceless. I recommend doing it outside anyways...

I don't think I can beat you in a bidding war when a rollover 2002+ comes up for bid. There are a few examples in the EU, but they seem rather rare.

Seems like the best bet would be to order the USDM NA2 Red carpet from the dealer and get Red mats from Hrant. I've also considered this as an option for my black interior, I think the Red carpet would definitely spice it up with some Type R flavour...what year was the Red interior made available Stateside? Was it '02?

Drew, I already have a 2002 (now a coupe) and just need to get all the items together for the interior.

Yes, 2002+ is offered in red, so it can be ordered. Approximately $1,200 for all carpet sections...YMMV

Ouch

For the NSX, this seems like bargain basement pricing compared to some other parts.
