I've read previous threads on the leather strap, supporting the clamshell. Previous information has the strap cost between $30 and $41. There are no photos this strap or a description. Would someone describe the strap, length and width? I'm thinking this could be reproduced with snaps. If anyone could take a photo, that would be helpful.

Thanks....

Tom

Why reproduce it? Initiative. Leather strap and two snaps? Maybe costs less than $3.00 to make versus $29.00 to buy. Why would you want to pay such a high mark up? If you want to pay for the piece, that's OK.

This weekend I painted my calipers. The Red Caliper paint, $6.50. Clear Enamal, $6.50. Acetone, $2.99. Add my time over the weekend, that was my total cost. Compare that to getting someone to do it for you.

Finally, as a new member, I've learned alot from reading the trials and tribulations of previous and current members. Somewhere down the road, someone else will search this topic, and perhaps learn, he/she can make or knows someone that can make, what I think is a pretty simple strap. Then this lesson will benefit others.

Oh........ And where did I learn the steps to painting the calipers? Right here on NSX Prime.

I'm always up for a DIY when I can do it well. In this case, you'll have to find a substitute for the hook end of the strap. Here are pictures from my car.

Good luck!

You are correct about not wanting to pay for the mark up. If you have the tools already, that's great. If you don't, the snap crimping tool is about $10 the last time I check (it was a couple of years ago). The snaps come in a package of 10 I believe. I was looking at doing some snap installation for a previous non-car project at the time. I went with the velcro route on that project. If the snap mates with the one on the NSX, that's great. If not you have to replace both (on the NSX and the strap). I never looked into leather straps, so I don't know the price that. Then you have to find or make yourself a hook. For someone like me who has to start from scratch, I think my cost will be between $15 to $20 (+ time).

You are also correct about leaving a trail for those who need/want to do this after you. It will be helpful for someone in the future. I know I've learned lots about the NSX just from reading old posts.

Is the strap broken or is it missing from your NSX?
