I've seen several people interested in selling non-NSX items in the last few days. I did a poll a while back and the majority did not want to see such ads on this system. Since it has been a while I figured we could re-visit the issue and see if the majority opinion has changed.

If we do this, it will be both personal used items (i.e. a Corvette, headers off a Civic, a used digital camera) as well as new items or group buys. Commercial posts would be allowed, including those from dealers/vendors, for new non-NSX items such as digital cameras or MP3 players or sunglasses or cars or whatever.

NOTE: These ads would NOT be moderated like the NSXPrime Marketplaceads are.

NOTE 2: There will not be any change to the existing NSXPrime Marketplace forums.

I like the idea. We could use guidelines for what is ok and what is not. Most people on this site however would not abuse it.

I am with Net Viper
I like the idea.

I would rather give my money to someone on prime selling there goods, than somebody on e bay that i don't know. We all have family's to support and feed, why not support each other before out sourcing.

You only need rules when it gets out of controll, just set some guidlines.

We have enough mods and rules!
The Marketplace forums use to be a fun place to get some good parts at cheap prices, but now its to slow and regulated. imo

Why not

Sure, give the category its own forum. Would make it easier for the posts like digital cameras for sale or internet domains for sale that usually end up in either the vendors area or the parts for sale area.

I nominate Prova4re and Netviper to Moderate that forum. :D

I second that!
I 3rd that (if that's possible), although i'd certainly offer my time to it, if needed :)

Netviper would probably buy up all the good stuff before authorizing the posts to be viewed on the forum, so on 2nd thought.....

If it got out of hand I would make a list of "Prohibited items" like eBay. But I would hope most members here have better sense than to list porn, drugs, fake IDs, satellite/cable descramblers, pirated software, etc.

Yes, it is a real shame it has to be so heavily regulated. It's amazing and sad how many people won't follow, or even read, a few basic rules.

As for slow, that may have been the case when it was entirely up to one person, but I rarely see posts in the queue for more than an hour or two now that there are several moderators.

Lud,
That sounds like more work for you!

BTW - I've got that extra kidney waiting! :D

I would bet that you would be taking a separate forum down within 60 days. I just see the opportunity for too much abuse and too much moderator time trying to keep it on the up and up. I bet it would get to the point quickly where it became the largest category on your server.
Keep it all NSX!

I voted no on overall consideration, but can see why there could be some merits - there is nothing generally wrong in my mind with exchanging the opportunity of articles for sale within our community.
However, the biggest problem I see is that, when you open the doors to non-NSX specific items, "our community" takes on a new identity - those with no vested interest in the community aspect are now capable of signing up, simply to have a place to use some free ad space. I think immediately you'd have a whole lot of new "members" with minimal posts & moderation will be a nightmare, because none of them will have any vested interest in keeping to the rules.
Maybe if you set some automated limit, in that only members with 100+ posts can post personal items, then it might retain the community aspect.

Ken makes some great points. I think if we could limit the posts to current members, or NSX owners, it might weed out the trash. Another way I can think of doing that would be to allow posts to only those who have member status (Prime contributions). Otherwise, everyone and their brother might be coming here and posting things for sale.

A great observation on what could happen.

You would have to do a hack to implement that rule. That would be the only way I'd agree to it really. We don't need non-NSX people in here just to post ads.

It could be a moderator function, where Netviper and Prova4re approve the thread, see how many posts they have, and then either let it stay or delete it.

Will there be rules? Should there be something inplace that sets the limits on what can and cannot be posted?
I'd suggest that it still be car-related, just not necessarily NSX.
This would include "motorsports" stuff as well -- memorabilia, event tickets, etc.

Many of us own "other" cars or vehicles, and some of this might be of interest to other NSX Prime folks as well.

I'd also suggest keeping the "stuff for sale/trade/etc" separate from the "stuff wanted" too.

Where would we draw the line? Digital cameras are used by most everyone here, and while not related directly to "cars," they are used for car purposes. Do we allow Supras for sale? If so, do we allow AMC Matador's for sale too? Probably shouldn't worry about it. We can let Netviper and Prova4re take care of those details. :D

Think of how many newbies would come on, offer to sell their soul for a new NSX, and clog up the bandwidth.

I'd vote no - there are a million other places to list random stuff for sale. I'd vote a cautious yes for automobile-related items only. I just think this would open up a can of worms and end up as a free flea market for a bunch of used crap.

JMO. Thanks to Lud for even considering it, though.

Although I would like to see an "other stuff for sale" forum, some of the concerns brought up raise a good question as how to moderate and control such a beast. The only fair thing that I can think of is incorporating a listing fee that needs to paid before the ad can be placed. It can be a sliding scale. Item's under $50 will cost $3.00, items under $100 could cost $7.50, and so on.

Why not use poohbear's site? NSX prime members could list items on poohbears site and list just a link to their auction on a prime forum titled "other things for sale". This may keep traffic down here at prime and bring in new members into poohbears auction site. Maybe it is just the boost needed to get his site moving.
Of course poohbear would have to approve of the idea and allow Prime members to list for free.

I have a few items I would love to get out of my garage that is for sure, including one vehicle.

I also have a few items I am looking to buy as well. Once again including a vehicle.

Thanks for the consideration on using my site. I have no problem with prime members using it for free...just as long as i can verify if that it is really prime members. If you can incorporate a direct link from the marketplace, the plateform runs itself w/out moderator to monitor it. Furthermore, you don't have to worry about clogging up bandwidth on the Prime side. To keep it free for active members, all i have to do is clear the invoices every month back to zero. The only major rule I have is, NO porns materials. Other than that, ya'll have my blessing to use it. It works just like ebay and i am sure everyone is aware of it. LUD and everyone...........it is your descretion to use it.

Hmm. The responses seem pretty evently split. I think I'll go ahead and try it, but my finger is on the trigger to set it so that only paid members can create new threads if it gets flooded with people registering for the sole purpose of selling non-NSX stuff.
