Hey guys,

I do not currently have the luxury of a garage, however, my NSX has a car cover on whenever I am not in her. As expected my car cover has gotten dirty. What is the recommended method of cleaning the cover without diminishing its protective qualities?

With a poly-cotton or all-cotton cover, simply wash it in your washing machine using a mild laundry detergent. With one of the thick layered fabrics like Evolution 4, take it to a commercial laundromat so you can use one of their big-capacity machines. Dry in the dryer on low heat. If you like, you can partially dry in the dryer, then put on the (clean) car to finish drying.

Thanx alot NSXtacy...Actually I have a stock car cover...I tried cleaning it with mild detergent and now when I take it off the NSX there's alot of small fibers from the cover all over the car. On a black car this is very unappealing. What did I do wrong?

Probably you haven't done anything wrong. As the covers age, they start dropping fibers and static cling causes them to adhere to your car. Just more more noticeable on black. Live with it or get one of those dust brushes with impregnated wax that sticks to the loose fibers...

Hmmm. I suppose..however when I first got the car cover water would bead on its surface. A plus since it rains so much here. The fibers on the car is just one side effect from washing the cover. Now water just absorbs into the cover. Oh well. Hopefully I can get a townhouse with a garage soon. Thanx for the advice everyone.

Kevin,

Just go to Target or someplace similar and pick up a can of Scotchguard or equivalent to re-treat the cover. This will help it shed water again.
