Clear coat peeled off. Need help from an expert.

I went to a track event and had to put numbered decals on both of my doors. When I removed them the same day, the clear coat came off in several large areas behind the decals (about the size of a cigarrette pack on each door). The paint is still there, but the clear coat simply seperated from the paint and came off with the decal. My NSX is a Sebring Silver '91. What should I do? Can the clear coat be repaired by re-spraying, or do I need to repaint the entire door? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

Next time, put the numbered decals on the sides of the engine hatch glass.

I know this doesn't answer your question - hopefully someone else will - but maybe it will help avoid a repetition in the future.

Good tip. However, I've been sticking on four inch high vinyl numbers (bought from Office Depot) on the sides of my doors and two to seven days later, I remove them with ease and no damage to the paint. Have been doing this for years. I can't imagine the clearcoat just coming right off like that! Are you sure your door wasn't repainted before with a poor clearcoat spray or you're using decals with a super strong adhesive? Sorry to hear about this.

BTW, I have a '91 silver NSX with original paint.

ryan,
i feel for you. the same thing happened to my sebring silver when i removed decals from the players run. i'm sorry to say that there is no easy fix. you will have to get the panels repainted. the several body shops that looked at my car verified that it was the original factory paint. they all said that the paint should have peeled off before the clear coat separated from the paint. it was most likely due to poor prepping at the factory. what is your vin number? mine was ...3153, perhaps our cars were in the same batch.
