Greetings,

I mounted my VIS hood a couple days ago and while pulling the car out today noticed a milky patch on the edge of the hood underneath the clear. This wasn't present previously and as you can imagine im a little bummed. The hood is going in next week for paint but I had planned on leaving the vent area exposed and of course this is exactly where the clearcoat is milky. Is it possible to sand down the existing clear and respray? If not will a tinted clear work?

Other than the clearcoat issue im pretty pleased with the hood. The fitment is decent and after a few more adjustments im confident I can even up any existing gaps.

Thanks for looking,

Matt

I have a VIS as well, showing same thing at the edge of the hood in the "scoop" area. The rest of my hood is painted. It's been on the car for about a year and the car is always garaged or covered if not being driven, about 2K miles in the last year. Not sure what is happening or how to fix it, but I'm not ready to bash VIS yet. Still cost effective for my needs.

If I'm not mistaken the hoods have a gel coat, not a clear coat, there is a difference. I've seen this happen after a couple of years in the sun, but not on a new hood. If push comes to shove and a little more money spent, you may get your body shop to sand off all the gel coat on the vent and apply clear which IMO will look better.

i have a vis hood.. i've painted most of it and have the carbon showing on the inside part of the vent.

i had the same issue on a small spot. the guy who painted my hood removed the clear/gel? coat and resprayed the clear.

it came out ok and i havnen't had an issue since
