I have a problem with my Climate Control Unit. It started acting intermittent not long ago, now it is completely dead. It acts as if it is turned off. I verified power at the connectors in the back (per shop manual). Does anyone have any other suggestions or experience with this type of failure? I would also be interested if anyone has a line on a used one. Thanks.

I had the same problem last year. Its was the computer module that plugs into the climate control unit. The Acura dealer here said it was a frequent problem they've seen with NSXs. The part module (small black box) is a bit high priced...it costs approx. $700-$1000 (depending on source)and can be a challenge to install, but your Acura dealer may give you a printout of how to replace the module.

My climate control unit will not power up. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps per service manual why the climate control unit will not power up. As per the flowchart, I should replace the unit with a unit that is new. Does anyone know any reputable electronic repair shop that could repair the climate control unit. Also, How can I find out if it is the computer module is the culprit vice a faulty climate control unit?

There are some parts of the car that lend themselves to DIY repairs. In general, the climate control system is not one of them, due to its complexity as well as the need for refrigerant recovery equipment, etc.

I would suggest taking your car to an Acura dealer for this. The problem with the control unit seems to afflict the '95 and newer cars (even though the TSB refers to the '97 only) and some owners have received goodwill coverage on the repairs recently. (I don't know if it's been completely covered or just partially.)

Very bad news. I too had problems with the climate control. It is now almost fixed(waiting to get parts from japan 3 months). Anyways the total of my bill is just short of 5k. They had to replace, all the blower motors, the control unit, some of the diverter doors a cable and retainer clip. As well as the labor to remove the entire dash and put it back in. The dash will also have to be removed again when the rest of the parts get here. It has been a "not so much fun" experiance.

I just remembered that the 5k figure included a valve adjustment and car cover.

It sounds like you might have the same problem that I experienced recently - intermittent operation followed by failure. It turned out to be a component on the Climate Control Unit circuit board burned out (I could see the charring). I could not find a shop (locally anyway) to repair it, and thus replaced the unit myself. I ordered it from Gunn Acura for, I think, $576. The dealer wanted $900 for the job. Removal and replacement is quite simple. Feel free to email me at [email protected] for more info or details.

When I removed mine last Feb, I too noticed some charring around a few small electrolytic caps. I tried replacing them, but it didn't help. I bought a replacement unit from an individual for much less than the cost of a new one. He contacted me when I originally posted the request for info. I received posts from others who had used units for sale, perhaps they still have them available. I would be interested if anyone had a detailed schematic of the climate control system to troubleshoot the faulty unit I still have. Unfortunately, the problem is most likely in one of the "proprietary" integrated circuits that you cannot buy replacements for. But it may be worth spending some time on just in case it is something less complicated.

When running the climate control, should the AC be running all the time? I had it set to 80 degrees, and the AC was still running.... It seems like the AC runs all the time and the warmer u set it the more warm air it lets into the system....

is this normal?

If you want the ventilation system off, you can turn it off using the "OFF" button (center of the right round knob, as i recall).

When it's powered on, the default setting is for the A/C function to be running, as part of the "AUTO" setting. If you press the A/C button (in that row of squarish buttons), you can turn it off (you'll see the display say "A/C OFF") and the fan will still be blowing air into the cabin. You can use this to ventilate the cabin with fresh air without running the A/C compressor.

It's the controls. Look in the FAQ (the Climate Control section under the Troubleshooting heading) where it says "Fan Speed Weirdness".

I just got a new climate control unit from HNA Automotive, Inc. from Texas (POC: Scott Oliver
Phone: (210) 543-1565). He was really helpful in helping me procure one and gave me a pretty good discount. Now I have my A/C back!!

My climate control unit would only work on Max with no fan speed control. The dealer (after diagnostics) said I would need to replace it ($2400 + installation). After reviewing the discussion on this site, I sent the unit to Brian Kiehnau and got it back and working in days and at a fraction of the cost. I am more than pleased.
