All,

Currently I have yoko on all 4 corners, and I am needing a new set of front OEM 16's. I know mixing tires are not the best option, but for cost saving reasons, I am looking at a set of used OEM Bridgestones. Just want to know if anyone has done that, any noticeable difference on street driving? Track driving?

thanks for any input.

Just my opinion... While it is generally advisable not to "mismatch" tires, doing so will be worse when the tires have dramatically different characteristics (e.g. a budget tire with a top-of-the-line tire, a summer tire with an all-season tire, etc), and won't be as bad when the tires are very similar to each other in performance. The Bridgestone RE010 and the Yokohama A022H OEM tires are extremely similar to each other under most circumstances.

As the rears wear out twice as fast as the fronts do Im sure you wont have trouble finding a buyer for the rears if there is some decent tread left on them and the price is right.

I wouldn't hesitate to mix them for street driving and have done so for many sets of tires of similar grip levels. For track driving, I'd try to match them.

Differences amongst the (2) OEM Bridgestone tires...

I have 17/17 setup and sorta face the same dilemma as you. I can get a pair of rear Yokohama A-022H 245/40R17, but unable to acquire matching fronts. I am contemplating getting a pair of OEM Bridgestone fronts...

The OEM RE010 are unidirectional, corner-specific (just like the OEM Yokohama A-022H). What about the other OEM Bridgestone RE040; is this tire also corner-specific? (differences between RE010 & RE040)

{Only reason I am considering this scenario is that I LOVE the Yokohama A-022H's on the NSX, and there is a rather good deal for a pair of rears}

Yes, the RE040 is corner specific.

You can't get the RE010 for 17" fronts, either. The A022H and RE010 are only made for the stock '91-93 and '94-01 sizes.

If you really love the OEM tires, and you want tires for 17"/17" wheels, I would suggest getting the OEM RE040 in the '02-05 sizes.

I assume the treadwear number refers to the softness or stickiness of the rubber. I am contemplating mixing a 320 treadwear on the rears with a 200 treadwear on the fronts. They are all Falken brand, and the temp and traction are all A's. Any problem for street driving?

Yes. It sounds like these are VERY different tires - sounds like a sticky tire like the Falken RT-215 or RT-615 on the front, and another, non-sticky tire (either the FK-451 or the Ziex all-seasons) on the rear. Not recommended - you could have major oversteer on dry pavement, suddenly turning into major understeer if you hit a wet spot. This is why the same tires are normally recommended for both front and rear.
