Considering purchasing the 350Z

I am looking to purchase a used 350Z because I am driving my NSX more then my daily driver(Honda Accord) so I am hoping that with a more exciting daily driver I will not drive the NSX as much. My concern is depreciation. The 350Z is said to hold its value a little bit better then most cars in its class but with the release of the new 350z in 2009, would it be better to be patient and wait for the release so I can get the z at a lower price? Or will the release not have a significant effect on the value? I know after a few years I would be looking to trade in the 350z or what ever car I get for another exotic so I want something that is economical, exciting, and holds it value relatively decent. I know no one has a functional crystal ball in their garage(LOL) but I am just trying to get some feedback and opinions.

Thanks in advance.

I would opt for the S2000 over the 350z. 350's are like civic's these days and they depreciate pretty hard core. The S2k will be more tactile and fun to drive and mimic your NSX. Drive a 350z... they are fat pigs, and coming from an NSX its gonna be a crappy experience.

The honda should hold its value a bit better as well IMHO.

I do not know what the difference between the MPG of the cars and you may want to look into that. However the newer Z's are far superior than the 03-05?. I would buy it for the exhaust note alone:wink:

Well, in regards to current generation 350Zs, my father owned an 05 and currently owns an 07... To put the difference in engines (For 07, the 350Z got the redesigned VQ35HR instead of the VQ35DE in previous years...), he had intake, catback, high flow cats, and a plenum spacer on his 05 and made more power bone stock with his 07. I believe it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 rwhp in his 05 and 260 rwhp in his 07--bear in mind both of his cars were autos.

The Z would be a good daily driver. Comfortable and still fun. The S2000 is an ok daily driver - it is certainly more fun, but comfort is lacking if your commute is over 15 miles each way.

I'm a huge 350Z fan, In fact I was going to buy one in 2002 right when they came out but the prices were f'ing insane and wanted a real supercar:biggrin: I love the looks, power is pretty good and the aftermarket support is huge. The only one I'd buy is a track model, love the Brembo and the factory Ray's rims. Search for a Brickyard color one or the Lemans Sunset.

I second the vote for the S2000. A lot more fun but a little less comfy. Still, the ability to drop the top and have a very agile, responsive car is more than worth the penalty of a slightly stiffer ride and a snug cockpit.

What is wrong with just driving the NSX every day? You seem to be doing that now anyway. I daily drive my NSX, and have other cars that rarely get driven at all (a few of which I am selling). If I were you, I would just enjoy the NSX as much as possible. You only live once. :)

If you do consider the 350Z, I would go for the track model if you enjoy spirited driving. A friend of mine has a standard model that he has upgraded to beyond ridiculous levels. He has a twin turbo kit, built motor pushing about 750 hp, big brakes, and everything else. I am amazed how much stuff is made for that car. His car is a sledgehammer.

Another thumbs up for the S option.

Well, I've had my 04 S now for almost 4 years as a daily driver and it has been excellent. Reliable and fun always. I think the interior is actually quite comfortable - I am often stuck in traffic for 1 hour going home after work! It is going to remain my daily driver after I get the NSX.

Drove a 350z as well and it felt heavy and almost sluggish as compared to the S and just didn't feel as much fun - but that's just me really!

Have plenty of friends with the 350 and they love them! But I just feel that going from a light, snappy Honda to a 350 may feel a bit odd.

350Z a lot more fun to drive though....it actually feels fast.

The GTO is more well hung with a 8x6 versus the 350z's 6x3.5.

No replacement for displacement.

Also, the GTO seats 4 very comfy.

and ugly, with poor build quality, horrible resale value, and really, just a poor execution of a classic american muscle car. Overall just a turd, IMO of course:wink:

Also the Original poster is considering buying a 350z, why we talking 'bout GTO's:confused: Just not a fan of the GTO's at all:frown:

I don't have a 350z but rather a g35 coupe and love it. The VQ motor has an endless aftermarket following and parts are much cheaper than the NSX's. If this is going to be your daily driven car have you thought about a g35 that way you have a car that can fit 4 if needed.
