Hello, my name is john bell and I am the very proud owner of a '98 Targa NSX with 90,000 km.

I am seeking advice to upgrade the centre console, so I can upgrade the radio and add a GPS.

I would also like to repair/upgrade the woofer speak between the seats that is not working, but I don't know how to remove it.

I would be very grateful for some experienced advice and guidance.

Best wishes John Bell (Perth, Western Australia)

GPS this http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produ...ts/NSX/ScienceofSpeed/CF_center_console_trim/ should work. That speaker between the seats is not woofer. The woofer is located in the passengers foot well. Which I remember that speaker is used if you have a car phone. I could be wrong on the speaker thing. Ah also you can get the nav pod from honda that is located just above the center air vent. It looks like whats going on in the picture belowravi_2.jpg

Welcome to Prime John! I don't know how long you've been on the site but make sure you check out the NSX Wiki which can be accessed off the red action bar at the top of most pages.

As SaleenS7Rs has already said, the speaker between the seats is not a sub .. but it is driven off the same amp as the sub so if it's not working, its very likely that there's nothing wrong with the speaker .. rather it's probably the sub amp that needs fixing. The OEM Bose stereo system has a distributed amp design with an amp in each door (with its respective speaker) and one for the sub/center speaker. It's very common that the amps fail due to the capacitors leaking. Prime user BrianK provides a repair service to the community at a reasonable cost. Your door speakers are probably ok as well but the amps likely need a refresh .. use the L/R adjustment to switch from side to side to see how the quality is individually. The sub amp is the easiest to get to .. just pull up the carpet in the passenger footwell and remove the floor protection to get to it .. then remove the sub/amp combo .. open it up and remove the amp. Here are some instructions from the Wiki: http://www.nsxprime.com/wiki/Bose_RR ignore the discussion about where to get them repaired .. it's out of date .. but the pictures to help with removal are good. Removing the door amps is more of a challenge the first time. It is possible that the head unit may need a refresh as well but more likely it's the amps. The head unit only outputs pre-amp levels.

Hello John.

Welcome to 'Prime!

Just an FYI: all NSXs from 1991-2005 would be considered 1st Gen (there is a little confusion as the power plant was upgraded in 1997, and the nomenclature changed from NA1 to NA2). But the 2nd Gen NSX has yet to be released.

There is lots of knowledge and friendly help around here, so dig in and enjoy the community and your new ride!

Thank you so much for these very helpful replies. I am very grateful. I have been given some useful starting points. The amps in the door speakers have been repaired when the previous owner sent them to a site member in the US. But It seems the amp in the centre speaker needs repairing too. I will cautiously move forward on an upgraded centre console. But I have already put colour coded reversing sensors in the rear bumper. I have thought of doing the same for the front, but I don't know what the solutions and options are ? ? ? Thank you so much
