Gentlemen: The Northeast Region is putting together a convoy of NSX's headed for Fort Worth. The plan as it now stands would have cars leaving Hersey, PA 11/3/02 Sunday morning, heading south on I-81 through VA and possibly spending the night at Wytheville,VA.
Subject to weather conditions the next day (11/04) we'd run through Tennessee stopping at Nashville then continuing on to Memphis, TN.Tuesday (11/05) we would run straight through to Dallas / Ft. Worth.. If any one is interested or wants to meet on the way, please e-mail me @ [email protected]
If poor weather is in the game plan then our route would run further south I-77 to I-85 to I-20, spending Monday night in Jackson, MS and then onto Dallas / Ft. Worth.

Having driven from NY/NJ to/from Dallas several times, I can tell you that the route you are planning is the best one to take. I have typically driven this in two days, first day from NYC to Knoxville, TN and the second day from Knoxville to Dallas.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at NSXPO!

If you would like to stop on I-81 closer to Roanoke, VA (exit 143) I would be happy to help arrange hotels, dinner, etc. We could probably even go 30-45 minutes further south, but beyond that there is no town bigger than one stoplight to stay in until you get down close to the VA/TN border.

If the weather is nice, and you are interested in this option, it would be fantastic to jog east 15 minutes from I-81 on I-64 to the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway and take the Parkway straight into Roanoke, VA. The Parkway is absolutely one of the best driving roads in the country. It will add a little time to your trip, but will be about the same time to Roanoke as if you went straight down I-81 to Wythville. I would even drive up and meet you guys at the start of the Parkway.

Then I could join you for the 2nd day and caravan into TN. If we stay near Nashville we can meet up with Barney Demonbreun. You could push all the way to Memphis too but it'd be nice to at least stop in Nashville and pick up Barn Man! Everyone will probably be ready for dinner at that point anyway.

Having driven this general route a few times I agree with EDR - I-81 to I-40 through TN is better and faster than I-81 to I-77 through NC regardless of the weather.

The only thing conditional on the weather IMO should be whether or not to hit the Blue Ridge Parkway on your first day.
