Costco and the NSX

For the past 6 months or so, I'd swing by costco once a month in the NSX. I go in, and grab a cart and usually end up with a case or two of water, and other items. Each time, I remind myself "oh sh!t, I hope this stuff fits in my car". So I carefully pick my items and I leave with a trunk full. No problem, maybe $50 to $100 in stuff. I don't bring the nsx consciously, I just happen to have the car whenever I get the idea to go.

So today, I take my truck into town. Hit up the old costco. I'm carting around, loading stuff up, meats, 3-4 cases of water, detergent, juices, ICE car wash, bakery goods, etc. My cart barely turns. Today, I left with a TRUCK BED FULL of stuff. I also spent ALOT more what I anticipated on spending to begin with.

All of it, not conscious of what I was doing. Think I'll be using the NSX for costco next month  lol

At my COSTCO, when you leave, they check your receipt and if you spent less than $100 you have to get in another line and pay the difference back to them. Is this legal?

What costco is that? China? (lol little ha ha from the whole china/olympics thread)

No way you're serious...... Pay back the difference? Like buying $60 in stuff and having to pay them back another $40? LoL.... I'm sure you're joking..... or that's really weird...

You guys are a lot braver than me. I wouldn't park my NSX in a Costco parking lot if they were giving stuff away. Seems like half the people I see at ours learned to park by feel. And it doesn't seem to matter where in the lot I park, the biggest piece of junk two-door 1985 Buick will find it's way next to me.

and OP, it sounds like the nsx is quite the money saver for you:tongue:

I park WAY back next to the gas station. It's the spot closest to the red no parking "parking spot" and they're extra wide. They're striped with not single but those big 16" double parking spot dividers. I a park ALL the way over. Even with a car edge as close to me in his spot as possible, our LONG nsx doors are still a long ways away. The spot is also in a high spot of the parking lot, gravity helps keep stray carts from rolling into me. Also with the high traffic from the gas pumps, people oooh and ahhh for long periods of time. Which means constant eyes on my car, including the gas station attendants.

The costco shoppers that are dirt bag goons generally all flock to park near the front doors of the store, I park at the side and away. That's where the pumps are.

I'm trying to not worry so much anymore. Afterall, it's still just a car.

Parking is like this but it feels WAY bigger.

I call the NSX, the "Can't fit sh!t mobile" when I go shopping with it. It does pack VERY nicely with clothes when I go on long road trips though..... I miss long multi state road trips..... Just don't put things like soap bottles or hair gel containers in the trunk. The heat in there causes that stuff to make quite the mess. Can't wait to finish college so I can go back to making real money again.......

On a side note, I've been commuting 25 miles or so daily on my aprilia sr50 scooter. Gas bill comes out to $7 a week. Another great feature of the scooter is it's ability to even carry LESS crap. Which means...... NO runs to costco, and super market run generally yields a loaf of bread and that's about it lol. The not very well known money saving benefits of a scooter  However, I HAVE on one occasion did a cross town beer run on the scooter. I brought along 6 bungee straps and I strapped down 3-30 pack case of beer on top of my rear seat straight up. That blows away my past record of 3 Marie Calander Pies strapped on the back seat of my sportbike.

I take mine to HD, Wally World, Target, movies, etc. C'mon now, it is just a car and meant to be taken out and used.

A trip to Costco is a nightmare for me no matter which car I drive, the Insight or the NSX. When I had a truck I'd buy everything from a ficus tree to a roll-top desk every time I went there! The small cars are a great budgeting tool!

Costco by my house never has any parking so I never bring the NSX there. Too many tools that don't know how to park their big SUV's and sedans. Thats Fit territory as far as I am concerned.

Too funny.

When I'm at Costco, and I realize that I've spent less than $100, I turn right around and go through the aisles again b/c I know there is something in there that I missed and I "must have it" before they no longer stock it.

Yessir. That's what the 1996 beatup Infniti G20 is for. Sometimes I do take the NSX, but park SUPER far away and am only in the store for 10 min max. Parking this thing gives me an ulcer:wink:

First week I owned my NSX back in 2000, I had to stop by Costco for something quick. I parked in the farthest corner of the lot where no cars were parked. Came back to the car and there was someone parked next to it. And yes, I got a tiny little door ding on my driver's side door.

Thankfully, a certain paintless dent removal NSXer on Prime got rid of it for me. :D

Since then, my NSX has only gone to Costco for gas...never to be parked in the lot.

I guess I'm lucky to have a decent Costco in my area lol.

Ok that is funny!

Only on Prime do we get graphic examples of parking set ups!

Oh yeahhhhhh, I'm all time, no life buddy lol :)

Oh that would just plain PISS ME OFF no matter where I was! And yes it's happened before in various places.

A handy tool to have, leatherman, comes with a nice thin strong ice pick sorta thing. It's great for punching holes in random items that you might need to. Cardboard, beer can for shotgunning, leather and oh, did I mention it goes through the tread of a tire like butta?

It does sound handy, where can you find this tool? Local Home Depot..?

I have a junked out 92 Acura Legend i use for occasions such as these. I actually find myself driving the Legend more often than i do the NSX. My wife hates that car though and won't be seen in it so i am going to have to replace it soon but i don't want to get anything nicer than the NSX or i won't know which one to take when i know i'm going to get door dinged.

I guess i'll probably buy the wife another new car and relegate our Honda Element to grocery duty but to be honest, i would rather be seen in my junked out Legend.

In California (maybe the rest of the U.S. too), you do not have to show your receipt on your way out the door at any type store. They can only request to see it and you have the right to ignore their request.

You can find it most anymore like sears, OSH, lowes, Home depot, LL bean, Bass pro, Cabela, etc. The Leatherman tool was the tool that started it all, in the multitool business. Gerber soon followed up after with their version. It's like the badass version of the swiss army knife.

I have this one, the original. See that thin tool on the left handle? :)

Really? I didn't know that. I guess most of us Costco shoppers are "Sheeple" sorta people. We see them lined up, so we line up also.

You gotta be kidding. I've been able to go into Costco and spend less than $20.00, although it is terribly difficult do so, and I've never been instructed to go back in spend more money. You may want to call the corporate office and see if this is an official policy. What if you just wanted a hotdog and soda for $1.50? Would you need to go back and give them $98.50?

He was not instructed, he just noticed he spent less than $100 so he goes back for more because some of us, including myself, set a limit at $100ish. So some of us go for that $100 mark by choice, lol.

BTW, their polish is good but I think their hotdogs taste gross for some reason......

Side note: Don't buy their frozen individually wrapped raw Ahi tuna. Stuff is garbage even though the package talks about "sashimi grade". Ahi should be deep red, not grey or orange or dull pink.

Yes, we are kidding. Just joking that it is difficult to leave a Costco w/o spending a few hundred or thousand dollars each time. They don't make us do it, we somehow make ourselves do it.

Phew. I guess you guys are still recovering from the quake. I have to use unbelievable restraint to leave there spending less than $175.00.
