CTSC Questions

I have had a '95 for 3 years now and love it but feel the need for more speed.

I see a few CTSC'd alternatives for sale right now, a '95 with 10 K miles (stock with I,H,E), a '99 73 K miles (Brembo, Stereo, suspension work), '96 with 104K (with 6 Sp installed).

My questions:

- is there a significant HP difference betweeen NA1 and NA2 when CTSC'd
- is a six speed equipped CTSC car that much better than 5 speed
- are there any other considerations between NA1 and NA2 CTSC'd cars.

No not really , the 3.0l and the 3.2l are not that far from each other in performance. You are only talking about a 20-30hp difference and the 3.2l cars are most likely NSX-T's that have more weight. The biggest difference comes from the type of CTSC, the older Whipple based systems are less powerfull than the newer Autorotor based systems. You can count on a half a pound more boost almost across the board with the Autorotor based CTSC and a little cooler Air temps, both of these things make for about another 15-25hp.

Do a search there are lots of opinions on this topic, but it mostly depends on what your plan for the car is ie. street fighter, drag racer, track monster.

- are there any other considerations between NA1 and NA2 CTSC'd cars.

For me with the advent of the AEM FI/C the NA2 is what I would be looking at if I was out looking for a NSX, but since I have one and so do you there is not enough of a difference to consider starting over unless there is something major you do not like about the one you have, like color or condition. Prior to the new AEM piece I would say the OBD1 cars were better options for major FI setups because of the relative ease of setting up the engine mangement. For your 95 you may find a few issues as it relates to the engine management but all are workable. Your car is the first year for OBD2 and by 97 more changes were made making the 95-96 model years somewhat of an odd-ball compared to the 91-94 and 97-2006.

I think the bottom line is if your car is in good shape and a solid foundation I would look at making the changes to your own car, something you know about and have a track record with, on the other hand if you find a car that is fully setup just how you would want your car to be then you can save a lot of time and money in buying a good well prepared car. When I added up all the changes I wanted to do to my first car I knew it was going to take a couple of years before I could get everything done and I also knew it was going to cost me at least $20k, I found a car that was setup with about 90% of the things I wanted and made the move on the new car and sold my old car. I am sure I saved at least $10k but I also was rolling the dice a little. It all worked out for me, but that $10k saving could have been used up real fast if there were any major issues that I did not find in the inspection process.

Thanks Dave for your thoughts. My '95 has 104K miles and is showing some age so i am leaning toward buying a sorted CTSC car and selling mine. A 10 K mile '95 CTSC (older) sounds like a good alternative assuming good leakdown/compression results.
 
Having driven both 5 and 6 speed cars, I much prefer the 6 speed. It simply feels faster and more fun. The CTSC just accentuates that. f you are going to upgrade, I recommend you try to get a 6 speed.

Yes & Yes. 3.2's are stronger.

he 3.2 is generally a stronger block (don't argue with me, ask Shad if you don't believe me..) I'd go with the 3.2
