I was at home bored and decided to drive the NSX just for the hell of it. I was driving down the highway and was about to make a U-Turn to make my way back home and suddenly I hear a loud whine followed by sparks. I immediatly turned the car off.
I was screwed, I intended to have a short drive so I left my cell phone at home and it was 10:30 at night so no business was open. While pushing car a older mexican guy in a badass lifted truck pulled over and helped me push the car to the lot. He then offered me a ride home and I accepted. I got home and offered him $20 for the ride and he wouldnt accept, what a stand up guy who sets the right examples.

Anyways, I get in my spyder with tools and my handgun (stranded in middle of bad part of city) and headed back to my car. Now with a flashlight I realized my Tension pulley broke so no fixing this here. Called a tow truck and got towed home.

once it snapped it grinded this bolt making it uneasy to remove and replace. (figure#2)

So here is the part where I ask for help.
1) how do I remove allen bolt from tension block so I can replace? How can I cut it off? Reffer to figure#2.

2)where can I get a replacement allen bolt that goes from pulley to tension block??

3) Where can I order new Gator belt from and whats the part number?
Thanks!

Man.. I agree with Russ. That's some crappy luck. Sorry to hear this.

- HF, Craftsman, and maybe Autozone has bolt extractors where you drill a smaller pilot hole in the middle of the bolt. The extractor is a bolt itself that's reverse threaded. As you tighten down the force is transferred to the stuck bolt. I've had 50/50 luck with these.

2)where can I get a replacement allen bolt that goes from pulley to tension block??
- I can't recall if the CTSC uses metric or SAE. Any good hardware store (My local Ace) will have an assortment of bolts in stock. Just make sure you use a Grade 8 bolt.

3) Where can I order new Gator belt from and whats the part number?
- The one I used. Goodyear Gatorback 4050705 5PK1790

Not sure if this was just a fluke and maybe just a bad bolt or if perhaps this was due to overtightening of the belt. Just something to look out for next time.

EDIT: Is that TiDave's tensioner and not the original Comptech tensioner? http://nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1495666

Can it be over torque? Look bad. Since u just got it install, ctsc that is.

Thanks, yes that is the aftermarket tensioner and not original one. I dont think it was overtightened because I was able to twist belt much past 90 degrees.

I think maybe undertorqued that may have cause wiggling of pulley and breaking bolt.

Thanks bud. Vice grips and pb blaster wont work because you can see the bolt mushroomed so it will not back out. it will need to be cut off.

Man that sucks. I think russ meant to use the vise grips to continue it on through, not back it out. Clamp it on the messed up part and try turning it the opposite direction.

That is no pt the one that broke. It still has its head on. But I was able to grind it off. Now I need to find the hardware.

Your pulley surface looks a little bit strange to me. How many miles do you have on the kit?

Is the bearing of the pulley still ok? It's not the cause, right?

I have a tap set for backing that bolt out provided you can drill a hole into the center of that bolt. I have to work tomorrow but can be available late afternoon. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. I went and bought one and seems like the steel is too hard for this to work easily. So what I did is I used a regular drill bit and drove it out from other end and it finally worked. im returning my extractor set cause it did not help.

Yes, this is the Titanium Dave or as SOS calls it, the "Cedar Ridge CT Supercharger Locking Tensioner Adaptor". SOS or Shad should be able to give you exact replacement parts. Make sure the bolts are the correct strength...

PM Titanium Dave. Or you can email him [email protected]

It's his part. He'll get you squared away.

Thanks, I found a local shop in Hesperia (Nutty Bolts) that carried same exact hardware for a whopping $2 :)
Fixed pulley is back in car and now waiting for my belt from amazon. Thanks :)

Oh, and I found out exactly why it broke. The allen bolt that goes through the pulley wasnt all the way in. It was backed out about 1/2 and that caused enough stress to snapn the bolt. I didnt check that when I installed (should have since I tripled checked everything else) it since it was assembled to the bracket already but this is how you learn. Fortunetly it was a cheap fix.

Wow, how scary! I almost had a heart attack when I read the thread title a little too quickly and thought it was your crankshaft pulley that had broke. I'm glad the good Samaritan was there to help you, and that everything seems to be working out.
