DC header, any opinion out there?

Well ... guys, I am researching for my next upgrade project, HEADER ! Apparently Comptech, Jaitec and DC Sport are the three names I've heard a lot here. I did a search and found lots of information and comments on both Comptech and Jaitec headers. But very little is available on DC Sport header.

Can anyone chime in on this? Is it a good choice? How does it compare to Comptech or Jaitec?

My 91 currently has RM DTM exhaust and Cantrell AIS. Which header will be the best combo with my existing modifications? Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Re: DC header, any opionion out ther?

I have my DC headers installed in 2000 now with 15K miles on them. Last week it started to leak and it turned out to be the flex joint area that were leaking massive amount of exhaust through.

I have also seen the comptech headers off the car, and workmanship is 10 times better than DC. The construction is also much better. It is a bit more expensive, but if you didn't have to deal with the down time and cost of sending your car to the shop, it'll all be worth it.

I think someone on Prime was saying that DC is redesigning their headers. Any truth to that? Warranty for the DC is 1 year now, according to their website.

Taitec, I've heard is good with equal length pipes like the DC, but no first hand info on them.

I'm very happy with my B&B headers. Nopi.com sells them and will knock a few hundred bucks off the price is you ask.

My friends just cracked also. I think I would probably go with another brand. Though I think DC has redesigned them in the last few years. Not sure if they still have the issue or not.

Is B&B header formally the RM header?

Re: DC header, any opionion out ther?

I have had no problems with my DC headers which are now 6 yrs old.But one is a small series

Gobble,

According to header info found under FAQ, RM headers were under lifetime warranty. Is B&B offering the same warranty? Does BB have a web site?

RM/B&B are not CARB approved or exempt in CA (DC Sports & Comptech are) - that might be an issue as well were you live or it might not.

Good thing you mentioned that. Well, that limits choices down to DC Sports and Comptech. Despite of differences in price and design, which will offers a better performance gain given the same test platform? Maybe there is some comparative data out there, possibly?

Hey Doc,

What do you mean by this "But one is a small series"?

Simply put my single experience has no statistical significance.

Ahh, I see... But of course... silly me!

So, since we are speaking statistically...

My understanding is that '91-'94 have the "spring" looking flex joint which seems to be the area of failure...

The '95-'96 have a totally different flex joint which looks like the Comptech flex joint...i.e "Ball type flex joint...

pbassjo, what type of DC Header do you have?

Comptech doesn't look like they are equal length, if that's important to you. It is to me.

Coould someone do me a great favour and post pics of the 91-95 and 96 onwards DC sport headers, I don;t seem to be able to find pics so I can compare the differences. I am thinking of using the 96 onwards headers for my 92 since I will be custom fabricating the exhaust so hooking up to stock exhaust is not important but ability to resist cracking is.

Thanks in advance

There you go. Now that's 2 for DC Sport.

OK then.... That's 2 for the '95-'96 DC Sports Header.... and so far 100% of failures are (edit: that are known to me have been a failure of the flex joint) in the DC Sports headers '91-'94 "spring type" flex joint...

Maybe the reason for the re-design...???

(edit: I have not seen the new design and have no idea why the re-design or what has been re-designed... But, I would really like to know if it is a re-design of the flex joint...)

Four years old no problems.

Re: DC header, any opionion out ther?

I don't own either, but after a visit to Factor X, Mike will only install the turbo system with DC headers. He finds their reliability and construction superior to that of CT. The redesign of the DC header was to update the flex pipe to the ball type. Cheers.

I'm not sure what the update was - but it was not for the reason stated above:

pzull,

Pardon my ignorance but what do "equal length" do for the headers?

nsxgod,

What type of joint system is DC Sport's latest 91-94 model header?
