Hi,
I am in the market for some new shoes and I know that nowadays, rims look really good with some deep lip.
We all know that when it comes to fashion, it comes and goes.
So my question is, when do you think the "deep dish rim" trend will fade away?
I look at my old Road and Track magazine ('97) and look at some of the rims that were advertised and they sure do look ugly to me. But I do remember them being extremely nice when I was younger.

They have been around for a long time. I think the biggest difference is the offerings that are available with the reverse effect. Allowing the lip to be flat. That is what everyone seems to be rushing to.

I think it faded away in the early 1990s, but there are still some aging muscle car fans that keep it alive.

I am just waiting for my 22 inch deep dish spinners to arrive for my NSX.

I don't think big lip trend will ever fade. I was hooking up cars since 1987 with my first FC RX7. I eventually went with Stagger SSR EX-C fins 16x7 +25 and 16x8 +10 about a 3" lip on that rear wheel. Everyone wanted to buy my rims from me.

in 93 I bought a e34 BMW 525. went with MK motorsport 17x8.5 1n 17x10.. about a 3.5" lip on that on that rear wheel.

02 I bought a IS300 when with 19x8.5 and 19x9.5..axis milano. 3" lip on that too.

04 for the NSX. 18x7.5 and 19x9.5. Volk GT-C about 1.5" lip on that. :frown:

My point is, althought there is some really nice flush wheels now. but when you put 2 car side by side the car with a stagger deep lip just looks better.

I dunno. Even back in 1985, when I was shopping for wheels for my Supra, I wanted the deepest, widest lips available on the wheels that interested me.

But then again, that's always been my personal preference.

ah.. I remember 85 supra's those car can fit in the biggest lip. a friend had Centerline racing wheels 15x8 with 4 inch back spacing(+0 offset). that is a 4" lip on that wheel. and it tucked.

Also the early 80's 280Zx can have about a 4" front spacing on it also.

I knew a number of NSXs that had 15x10s in the back (with 15x8s in the front) with some mad lip width also. In addition to Centerlines, they also liked Hoshino Impuls.

(Sorry for the bad pic.....It's from the eighties. :p)

More pics here.

Those guys had the "JDM" look over a decade before it was the "in" thing.

Wow, that's one ugly Supra! I loved Supras back in my college days. This one looks like it was painted in one big piece without any masking by Earl Schreib (sp?) with his $99.99 special.
