Deleted cats?

Why would you do that? The iron exhaust manifold is the limiting factor in the exhaust chain, followed by the stock exhaust, and finally the cats. I'd have put on headers and got an aftermarket exhaust before I'd consider getting test pipes.

Actually I'm going the NA2 manifold route since they work fairly well from what I'm told so I figured why not free up the cats also. I'm just curious if theres any benefit.

go to comptechusa site. they have a dyno chart for different components. the exhaust seems to add little on the top end, but actually lose some below 5.5K rpm.

headers appear to have the best gain. I suspect the oem na2 header is not going to put out as much as a real headers though.

I wonder if anyone has just added the non oem headers with the stock exhaust on the NA1. It will probably have some real nice gains.

you should keep the cats. it is better for the environment.

I was told by more than one member that NA2 OEM header manifolds work quite well for 1/3rd the money of headers.

Yup. If you're looking for power, go with headers and exhaust. Leave the cats alone; the test pipes won't add power (on an NA car, anyway) and they'll just make your car (and the air) smell really bad.

I am currently running stock manifold and exhaust with test pipes on my 91. The only reason I am doing this is because the car came that way and I don't have the original cats. I would assume it is a little louder but probably doesn't add any horsepower, I would spend that money having a good muffler shop make you a magnaflow cat-back like some of the members here have.

I had DC headers + testpipes + comptech exhaust. Now I changes this setup to DC headers + stock cats + GT-One exhaust. With this setup, the car pushes less (= sensible at my butt dyno), especially at 5000 rpm where I had a big bump of power with the testpipes.

I don't think that this can come from a performance difference between the Comptech and GT-One exhausts which are both of comparable technology.

I have SOS headers, test pipes & a Comptech exhaust. My car isn't loud or smelly. Runs great.

there are a couple dynos posted on prime somehwere showing conclusively that gettingg rid of the cats has no effect on HP.

it does seem to have an effect on the wallet if you get caught, however?
