Hi Guys,

I once saw someone who had a trick wedding ring made up of Carbon Fiber and Titanium.

I'm presently searching for a cool wedding ring design for myself that somehow incorporates titanium or platinum with a killer shape and perhaps some Carbon Fiber (no not a car shape but functional shape).

Any guesses as to a site or vendor that might sell such a thing? Anyone here on Prime had any experience with such?

Yes I've got a wedding band that is Titanium with a strip of carbon fiber up the middle and I love how it looks. Most major jewlery stores carry this style of ring.

platinum scrathes easy and tends to dull a little bit,

titanium would be nice, but personaly i think cf might be a little tacky, plus you would want to get a really really small weave, you can probably find it out there but i doubt there are any made to the quality you want for a wedding band

I looked into getting a titanium ring when I got married. I didn't go that route. After looking into it more I was told that if you ever need the ring resized it's not really doable. Titanium is more brittle instead of stretching. Don't know if that's true or not and now that I think about it I've never had to have my ring resized, even after 7 years.

mine is titanium and doesn't get any less scratched up than my previous white gold ring. there's rings in all sorts of stuff today like tungsten, palladium and other odd metals. titanium can't be resized, but unless you're planning on gaining or losing a lot of weight that's not really an issue.

titanium as material for a ring is pretty nice...but imo, gets scratched pretty easily. i rarely wear mine and i find myself buffing it every 2 months or so. also, i agree that a carbon band would be a little off as the weave would have to be very very small...but that's only imo.

it's not a wedding band, although it could be, but i am nowhere near that stage in my life. also, at the point the picture was taken, final surface finishing was not done, along with final buffing. i custom made this with a manual lathe and a 3 axis CNC mill, so it only shows the possibility of what can be made. if you can dream up a design and cannot find something to match it at a jewelry store, a good machinist can probably do the work...although it took me over 100 hours to go from design to finished product, so think of that in terms of the payrate for a good machinist ($75/hour possibly)

I was given a titanium ring. Very light, very understated. Knowing how to buff out haze will serve you well over time.

Look on eBay. Lots of them on there last time I looked.

i LIKE that one. how scratch/scuff resistant is it?

google searching tells us:

extremely hard 8.5 - 9.0 Mohs scale
The finish is highly resistant to scratches and scuffs, holding its mirror-like shine for years.

A common misconception held concerning tungsten carbide rings is they cannot be removed in the course of emergency medical treatment, requiring the finger to be removed instead. Emergency rooms are usually equipped with jewelers' saws that can easily cut through gold and silver rings without injuring the patient when the ring cannot be slipped off easily. However, these saws are incapable of cutting through tungsten carbide. Although standard ring cutting tools cannot be used due to the hardness of this material, there are specialty cutters available that are just as effective on tungsten carbide as they are on gold and platinum. Tungsten carbide rings may be removed in an emergency situation by cracking them into pieces with standard vice grip–style locking pliers.

Many manufacturers of this emerging jewelry material state that the use of a cobalt binder may cause unwanted reactions between the cobalt and the natural oils on human skin. Skin oils cause the cobalt to leach from the material. This is said to cause possible irritation of the skin and permanent staining of the jewelry itself. Many manufacturers now advertise that their jewelry is "cobalt free". This is achieved by replacing the cobalt with nickel as a binder

I'll check them out! thanks:wink:

I agree, that is a very nice ring. I will have to check into getting a ring like it for my self. There is another great site at Tanga that I have been going to for awhile now because they change the rings daily. They are very inexpensive and I have even given a few away as gifts.

I have that ring. Almost every "chain" jewelry store has a version...
