Discontinued Alternator for 92 NSX

I was wondering if there are any alternatives (aftermarket) when replacing alternators out there for a 92 NSX. According to the Acura/Honda dealer, the 91-94 alternators have been discontinued.
What about using alternators from a newer year? Are there any drawbacks? Any feedback is greatly appreciated....

There are qualfied shops out there who fully rebuild your old alternator. No need to buy a new one.

They aren't discontinued I just ordered 2 of them.
But indeed you can rebuild them, iirc Honda has the parts to do that.

In the US it is officially discontinued. However the 1995+ is 31100-PR7-J01 which is available and frankly I have seen no physical or electrical difference between them.

Also, why would you ever buy one? Have it rebuilt for $150, maybe less.

Admittedly I do happen to have a really good auto electric shop near me, but to spend $1000 on a new one, is just not making too much sense to me financially.

I usually get Denso or Bosch ones.

Over here never use Bosch anything electrical.
Their o2 sensors don't last or even sense correctly from new and I wouldn't trust their alternator.
Denso is good quality.
Like Larry B said, just have it overhauled if you can find a reliable shop near by.
It should just need new brushes and in extreme cases the armature turned.

They probably do since the alternator disassembly instructions are in the service manual.

My alternator went on my civic and all it needed was a new set of brushes that was available at the dealer.

Not a kit, but many of the parts are available separately (bearings, seals, brushes, regulator, etc.). Check any of the online OEM parts sources and go to the alternator diagram.

I got a list from Mark at Daliracing of the individual parts that are still available from Acura. Not all were available I think... It's a pdf, I can send it to whoever needs it.
