The 76 Grand Prix passed smog check at the shop after cleaning the fuel line but failed at the smog test shop two weeks later. Only 30 miles of driving, and the car was warmed up by idling. Paperwork is required to have SMOG done at a test shop not repair shop per DMV. Bringing it back to the shop, they now say the distributor is not giving the right advance and its bad ............. does the distributor go bad without any prior hint? It has failed SMOG test twice now. No problem last time it was tested and few miles have been put on the car since then.

Also, if I add some fuel additive/cleaner, would that help pass SMOG? They said it might make it worse.
