I can't seem to keep my RPM under 5K, the RM exhaust and the intake sounds soOooO good....is this bad for the car? Who else is having this issue? Do I have a problem?

Seriously... WOT at 5k + especially VTEC engagement is so awesome. I roll the windows down, and just soak up that sound... I miss it when I'm driving normally.... ;-) And yes, if loving VTEC is wrong, I don't want to be right!

Pooh, bring it out to Palomar tomorrow and we'll check it out.

Keeping the revs high is not bad for the car. The main downside is that it will use more gasoline than lower revs.

There was a guy on the VTEC.net forums that said the NSX gets 30 mpg on the highway. I told him that was a bit high, and in any event I didn't know any NSX owner with that kind of self control . . . :D

I have gotten 30mpg on the highway, with a passenger!

But you are right, it is tough to maintain that steady pace for very long:D

I've gotten 30 mpg on the highway, driving to the racetrack - and around 9 mpg on the racetrack itself.

I know it is possible, but nobody seems to be able to control themselves to sustain it for very long.

what's the rpm you guys keeping

in order to get 30mpg?

I would have guessed smooth acceleration with just enough gas given + NO heel and toe downshifting, and shift to highest gear without lugging the engine...

what else?? I'm all for saving gas, since I DO felt gulity for my 8-10 mpg on track day... :p

BTW, I'll be happy if I can get 25 mpg in everyday commute, I'm still averaging from 21 to 23 mpg...

On long term average I get 26.5 mpg. The minimum was 27 mpg. What is important to save fuel is to push the throttle 3/4 on very low revs as the engine works efficiently under this circumstance. As a Sunday driver I'll get the torque from about 1400 rpm and shift it at 2000 to the next gear. About 2 % of my rev go beyond 3000 rpm and about 0.1 % to 8000 rpm. So I'm still having fun :D
and no complaining girlfriend (very important!) :)

But I even consider 25 mpg as very economic. :)

Greetings,
Thomas

Is it bad to VTEC the car in 2nd gear? I usually do it in 3rd.
Yea, i'm not sure what you mean by this. 2nd is the gear i like to hit vtec in the most. WOOOOSH!
besides, vtec'ing in 3rd is bringing you in the neighborhood of 120mph right? Not alot of places you can do that one
