Perhaps some of you on this forum are in the upper middle class, or even wealthy? I'm not...but people "now" tend to think I am. I just tell them that anything is possible without wife or kids (as they are kicking themself)

All I know is that I was several ten of thousands of $$$ richer before I bought my NSX :D But now I'm happier

Interesting, I have the same situation. Everyone always says, wow you must make a lot of money. Then when I say that I don't have a wife and kids to support so I get to have some cool toys, they think for a minute, then say "yeah, I would too". Rich and wealth are relative terms, it's subjective if you ask me.

For the owners of the upper years like a 00 and above, have to be well off. I would say. I long for a 97 and up but just am not there yet...but people still think I am wealthy.

People think I'm rich because I am rich - I have a beautiful wife, 2 awesome daughters, a nice house, good friends, and my health. Really, what more could I want?

Oh, and the NSX doesn't hurt. :D

people think im rich because i'm 20 and drive an NSX, a new chevy xtreme, and have two waverunners, but what they forget is that i still live at home. I do pay my own insurance, car payments and cell phone payments, as well as run my own business, as well as pay some rent to my parents till I can afford my own place.

It's very strange the different reactions you get from people when they see the NSX. I would think most people I know would genuinly be happy for me when I bought mine.

Several people I know/work with reacted differently. They seemed a bit sour to the idea. Comments like "mid-life crisis", "why does it look like a camaro", "why is it so expensive", blah blah blah.

You buy this car because you love it. Most of the negative comments you get are just jealousy in my opinion.

I'll just say I'm very careful who I reveal to that I have a car such as this. It's bad enough having three of them, and I don't tell 90% of my customers that I sell to what I have in my garage but my close accounts that I would consider as much a friend as a customer I'll confide in and most of them I don't feel judge me. Mostly because of the reason mentioned above, not married and no kids to support.

The average college student would probably say I'm rich. The average rich person would say I'm not even close. But yeah, I tend to get treated differently for driving the NSX.

One thing I know for damned sure: Don't drive it onto a car lot unless you want a lot of creepy salesmen flocking to you with dollarsigns in their eyes.

I don't consider myself wealthy by any stretch of the imagination. I do know that I manage MY money well. I have only ONE credit card(that I pretty much keep a low balance or nothing) it really is just knowing how to manage your money. I am married but she has a decent job but one KEY is no kids and we don't plan on having any ;)

I would say people think I make a lot more than I do because of the NSX. Most people think the car is brand new. They are in shock when I tell them it is a 93. Then they think I am po. ;)

Ii find it somewhat of an oxymoron when people say that they are 'rich' because they don't have kids. in my mind children are the most valuable asset anyone can have.

it's a strange thing. once you have them, you'll understand.

btw, i have 2, help support a third, a wife with 2 masters degrees that works extremely hard but doesn't get paid (monetarily at least, just the invaluable return of raising the kids) i just work my ass off to do the best that i can AND have some toys. you gotta have your vices! ;)

Well, I don't have an opinion since I AM rich. :D

PS: I also have a wife and two wonderful Kids...but I am also on car #29.

I recently had a guy behind the counter at 7-11 ask "What do you pay about $900.00 a month for that" I said something like that.... Ha!

Mine's a daily driver and my patients see it in the parking lot. Even with the car cover on, I still get comments like "Wow, you must be doing really well and I guess you need my co-pay to help make that new car payment. I tell them it's a 12 year old Acura and they look at me like...sure it is doc!!

My definition of rich is a constant flow residual money.

Bill Gates is rich
Mick Jagger is rich
Steven Spielberg is rich
Ozzy Osborne is rich
etc..........
All of them can do what they want when they want and answer to no one. The money will always be there no matter what.

Doctors
dentist
lawyers
football players
etc................
All have large incomes, but have to show up and work in order to continue to be rich.

The above applies to monetary wealth. There are many other ways to gage wealth than money. I feel I am wealthy with the huge spectrum of skills I posses.

Actually, that is the definition of "wealthy" not "rich". Rich still has more to do with you current debt to income ratio and the value of your liquid assets.

from www.m-w.com

Main Entry: rich
Pronunciation: 'rich
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English riche, from Old English rIce; akin to Old High German rIhhi rich, Old English rIce kingdom, Old High German rIhhi, n.; all from prehistoric Germanic words borrowed from Celtic words akin to Old Irish rí (genitive ríg) king -- more at ROYAL
1 : having abundant possessions and especially material wealth

versus

Main Entry: wealthy
Pronunciation: 'wel-thE also 'welt-thE
Function: adjective
Inflected Form(s): wealth·i·er; -est
1 : having wealth : extremely affluent

I never claimed to be wealthy, but I do have a 10 year plan to get there...unfortunately it calls for no more cars. :) I guess I am "stuck" with my NSX . :D

ditto on that. Damn...most '91 are cheaper than a new rsx type S and are still cooler. Go figure...

Yet, the NSX will be MUCH, MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE to insure and maintain. How many cars you know have a thousand something clutch job and three something for the timing belt/water pump, valve adjustment service? Not many! An RSX would never, ever get close to that number. And, in one or two years, that 12-13 years old NSX still worth close to what it was two years before. However, the price on a 2 years old RSX, by then, would be thousands less. Not to consider all the gas that the NSX will go through, too.

J/k :D

Touche' my friend! Actually, with so many people complaining about bouncy HID conversions, I have opted to wait.

PS: Nice Lear Jet...too bad it drops in value even faster than your NSX. :D

The NSX is not really more expensive to insure vs an RSX or other $25K-$30K new car. It really depends on the area and the person. My 92 NSX only cost about $1100 a year to insure while my wifes RX330 is about $1300. Also, my wifes old 94 Civic EX Coupe was also over $1000 to insure. As for timing belt change, it appears the NSX is only about $200-$400 (Depends on the dealer) to do vs other V6 Acurars like my Legend or the new TL/RL and such. My Legend was about $1200 for timing belt and water pump change while the NSX is about $1400. Clutch job on my 6-Speed Legend was about $1800. Anyway, maybe the RSX is not the best comparion but the new TL could be. To afford a new TL you don't really need to be rich and the insurance and maintenance is probably about the same or even more than an early model NSX. But I agree about the NSX still being a better value in the long run compared to other $30K cars.

As far as people thinking I'm rich? Some do, but most who know me just think I carzy and spend too much money on cars:D

I'm with these guys!
I'm feeling pretty rich right now with a great wife, 2 wonderful
young kids and one in the oven due in Sept. We make average income with a nice house, 3 old acuras that are paid for, toys for the kids, great vacations every couple of years, good friends
and family. Best of all, our health, like LeftLane said.
The trick is to marry the perfect wife for you
that will let you buy the toys you really enjoy.
The point is, having wife and kids should not stop you from
living a rich life!
