Don't do this -- or, I need a cargo net for my NSX

So, Dianne and I met up with sjones on the Dragon this past Sunday morning and made a run together (I couldn't keep up BTW, he's a maniac!). At the other end, we parted ways with him heading east back into the Dragon while we traveled west in search of beer.

See, beer is a rare commodity around Robbinsville NC, 18 miles south of Deal's Gap, where we have a cabin rented 12 miles up the mountain but right in the middle of a dry county. We've been told that a few more miles into Tennessee will reward us with a store that sells beer on Sunday AM, so it's off we go to stock up for the week.

Anyway, we find ourselves several miles down the road, the proud possessors of 2 cases of aluminum cans of our favorite mildly alcoholic beverage (it's light and cheap - that's all I'll say). I drop them into the otherwise empty trunk of my NSX and we head for our cabin which is now a good 40 miles away. Of that 40 miles, at least 30 of them are windy twisty insanely fun mountain roads, including the return trip on the 11 mile Dragon.

Somewhere along the way, the thrill of driving drove all thoughts of the cargo in my trunk completely from my head. I'm guessing this happened about 100 feet after we left the parking lot of the beer store.

So, to bring a long story to an abrupt end, I managed to bust at least a dozen beer cans in the trunk by repeatedly slamming them from one side of the trunk to the other. All the cans, every single one, looks like they've been beat by millions of little hammers. Metal fatigue on a massive scale, nothing more or less.

The moral of my story is, everything has a price. In this instance, the price was $28.50 plus leaving my trunk open 2 days in a row to dry out. Does anyone sell a cargo net for the NSX?

I've never put any can drinks inside the trunk cause it can get very hot in there.

I have a piece of that rubberized mesh nonslip drawer liner in my trunk to keep stuff from sliding around. Don't know if it would pass the beer test. It's available at any dept. store. Sears sells some heavy duty stuff for toolbox drawer liners. You can also get it in really big pieces for putting under area rugs. I have it allover the cargo area of my Subaru too, works great. You could also try looking into a small load bar that would wedge across the trunk.

It would seem that one could swap-out some of the pushpins for ones with loops or hooks or some-such thing and drop a nice OEM Honda/Acura net in there lickedy-split. Might even look nice. This could be an interesting DIY.

Next time, buy more beer to completely fill up the trunk so that they can't move around. :)
Oddly enough, this occurred to us as the only logical solution. That is what we'll do next time. :)

And another little tidbit for you. Bryson City is a great place to stay when visiting the Dragon. It has several nice B&Bs and is not "dry" if that matters to you.
