Hi All,
Just got my car back from Shad at Driving Ambitions in Sacramento, I had the Cantrell Headers and a Taitec GTLW exhaust added. Shad ran dyno runs with stock config then with the stock headers + Taitec and then with the Cantrell + Taitec config, I am pleased with the results (Especially the sound of this setup, its fantastic)

The car in stock/base form has the Cantrel AIS + UNI filter

All figures on the wheels.

Run 1 Base = 256.1HP / 210.6 LBFT

Run 2 with Taitec GTLW = 265.5HP / 214.7 LBFT

Run 3 with Cantrell Headers + GTLW = 275.5 / 221.2 LBFT

The Taitec alone gave around 9 HP and with the Cantrell headers we gained another 10HP so total gain 19 to 20HP and around 10 LBFT

The sound is a rich deep growl, very addictive!! .. but its not over the top at cruising speeds. I "feel" that the car pulls faster through the gears but that could just be that I have been driving the wife's CRV for 2 weeks ...

Now for that CTSC ...

Anyway big thanks to Shad  , I also had some other routine items taken care of, Shads service and knowledge of our cars is outstanding and I recommend anyone in the area to use him in future.

Highlight of the day had to be having a ride in Kip Olsens NSX, Kip was very kind to take me out and show me what a 500HP NSX is like .. all I can say is WOW - Kip has one hell of a machine - My car felt a little slow on the way home

Anyone interested in the stock parts that were removed I have put a post up in the parts forum - the 98 headers would be a good addition to a pre 97 NSX.

Congratulations!

10 dyno-proven rwhp with the same car on the same dyno after changing nothing except for swapping the stock NA2 headers for some Cantrell headers. The Cantrell headers must flow significantly better than the NA2 headers. The testing they did during product development seems to have paid off.

The part numbers for 1997-1999 NA2 headers are different than for 2000-2005 NA2 headers. Does anybody know whether the 2000-2005 headers flow any differently than the 1997-1999 headers or does the change only have something to do with LEV requirements? Will the Cantrell headers flow that much better than all NA2 headers?

Congratulations,

Before/After #s is what really counts and accurate measure of gains with each mod. I have never seen anyone gained 10rwhp with headers on NA2, as the stock NA2 headers are already quite good. The car must be a blast to drive after these items.

Thoese Cantrell headers must flow really well. Peak # aside, are there gains in the mid range/under curve as well?

I have Comptech headers, my original choice was Cantrell as it looks beefier, but my impatience prevented that from happening.

The gains start kicking in above 5500 from what i can tell looking at the graphs so would coincide with the vtec point.

I to installed Cantrell headers and Tubi exhust on my '97. Ran it on the Autowave dyno with Tubi only, 272HP, with Cantrell headers 292HP. Thanks Will  It was great to meet you last night at the dinner.

292! so you found another 20HP on top of what I have on the wheels, all of that cant be the tubi, must be some other differences

I was wrong, it was 290.4 HP. The tubi was already on at 272 HP, no other changes were made to gain 18.4 HP. Will Cantrell has got both dyno sheets, even Shane and DynoMike were surprised by the improvement

Hi Kye,
Nice gain on the HP. How does it feel and sound? I'm thinking of adding exhaust and header, comptech package, as a first step.

nice numbers.

Shad does great work, and is such a nice guy with all the proven racing back ground one the NSX. He can do just about anything to an NSX.

have fun with your new HP gain and killer sound.

Thanks for posting up the results. I'll have to add this to my "to-do" list.

272 rwhp puts your car right in line with an '02' 996. That should be a fun ride.

numbers are just that. numbers. you can tweak the dynos to a certain extent for more or less hp.

what you should be looking at is HP gains from before and after the upgrade.

That way you get a understanding of performance gained rather than just the numbers. Dyno's will all put out different numbers according to how they are caliberated.

The real "dyno" is the 1/4 mile and trap times. Thats the only way you can get a true comparison with cars dynoed on different dynos.

sometimes 1/4 are off also depending on track conditions and altitude

I decided to take out the Uni filter and give it a clean, after only 3000 miles since the last time and I am shocked, it was covered in what basically looked like thick tar, I have the Cantrell AIS and I know it is quite dusty in Nor Cal on the roads but this was suprising, anyway wish that I had cleaned that before I had the dyno's done because the car feels a lot more responsive now it can breath again!!

That is why I removed my DF Scoop (Basically the same thing). It scoop up every thing. My friend even found a rock in his Filter Box.

Wow, Cantrell Headers made a good hp jump. I wonder, how are they compared with SOS's?

Science of Speed told me on the phone that the Cantrell headers consistently made a few more horsepower than their own headers. Because of that, they recommended I buy the Cantrell headers rather than their own. I'm looking forward to taking the Comptech headers off my car and putting the Cantrell headers on!

Please do before/after dyno! I would love to see this to see if this whole Equal Length is better than anything myth is true or not.

Please do before/after dyno!

If I do a before dyno now the results would probably be screwed. One of the pipes from my Comptech headers separated from the collector – which is why I ordered new headers. I expect my Comptech headers no longer flow like they should and that I’m therefore losing horsepower. And the car sounds just awful now.

I bought the headers in 1995, back when Comptech was selling mild steel ceramic-coated headers. The headers started to get surface rust (despite the ceramic) and I guess the metal weakened enough for one of the pipes to develop a clean break. But the headers held up for 12 years and the car was my daily driver for many of those, even on salted winter roads, so they performed well.

Unfortunately, a before/after dyno would probably not give very valid results.

Hi Kye,
Sorry I did not check the filter. But when we do the SC we will rebaseline on the dyno before the install. I do not think it would have made much of a difference. Even if the Uni looks very dirty they still flow good. Sorry..........Shad
