i have a 91 with 55k miles.. i drive the car only on the weekends and sometimes a weekend will go by i wont get to drive it. lately, when i have been able to take it out, i punch it and the car bogs down like around 4k-7k rpms.

at first i thought it was the traction control so i took it off..but still does it..after the driving the car for about 15 minutes i try to punch it hard again and its just fine.

only when the car is fairly cold does this happen..whats up??

It sounds to me like you are experiencing the rev limiter. The rev limiter prevents the engine from overrevving and incurring damage as a result. When the engine is warmed up, it allows you to rev up to a couple hundred RPM over the 8000 RPM redline. But when the engine is still cold, the rev limiter prevents the engine from exceeding about 7100 RPM.

In other words - it's totally normal. (However, it's there for a reason. Basically, you would be better off waiting until the engine is warmed up before going into the upper end of the rev band, and not even relying on the rev limiter for this purpose. Drive the car gently until it's warmed up, and then drive the crap out of it. :D )

nsxtasy,

you are the man!!! thanks for the info..i guess ill have to wait 15 minutes before i drive the crap out of it!!!!
