Ever rent your NSX out?

Have you ever rented out your NSX?

I don't drive mine that much. I have a 1991 Acura NSX. I was on the www.nsxfiles.com and saw that he rented his out for $600 a day, but his was highly modified. So that gave me the idea to maybe rent mine out. I might rent it out 2-5 times a year. I wonder what I can do to make sure it comes back? Or make sure that they don't take anything off of it!

Any other tips/or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks!
John

Hey John

i was acturally thinking of renting out my 355 and my nsx since i never drive it.

verifiy that the renting party has comprehenisve coverage up to and exceeding the replacement cost of your nsx.

also place a large deposit incase of any repairs... for the nsx im thinking of about 500-1000$ + renting fees.

it sounds like a a good idea.. but i know whoever got my 355 would beat on it and what if it does get nicked or worse crashed and their insurance company has some issues with the funds. unless you get commercial insurance if your personal insurance company finds out that the car was rented, they might not reemburse you since your nsx is no longer a personal use car an is now commercial.

i rather pass on the 750$ a day on the 355 and have her sitting safely in my garage then out on the streets getting railed out.

it is definitly good money while it lasts. you should look into it as it can be a great second income!

It's like going to a prostitute. If I gotta pay for it, I'm gonna ride it as hard as possible till my times up.
Hope this helps.

Can you elaborate more. I know they say it's cheaper to rent than it is own.

thats just asking for trouble,

you do know why most rental cars are slow, lame, and automatics right?

if i PAID to drive a nsx/355, you can be dam sure its gonna be limping back after 12 hours(im sure the same rule for davidf's prostitue:tongue: )

you would be better off renting out a mercedes sl500

Wouldn't the most likely bad outcome be drivetrain mechanical damage that no insurance is going to cover?

Doesn't sound like a business for amateurs.

I got an inquiry about it being used in a prom. I had one kid pay me just to drop him off at a party in it. Don't know if it got him anywhere, but certainly the girls standing outside noticed. $100... whatever... took me 10 minutes.

You know who makes out? my 11 year old "little" brother from my Big Brother program. Not only does he get to be seen with a bigger "brother" that could kick all his schoolmates A$$es, but he also gets to be dropped off in an 05 NSX. All for free.

No, I would not rent out my car without being there. No way.

I don't think that would be a good idea. Thats like letting your wife drive it...LOL j/k:biggrin:

Like other people have said, it would have to be an Auto. One bad downshift with a manual and bye bye vtech.

How much did you charge him for getting the beer?

Id sooner let them drive my wife lol:biggrin:

I couldn't do it. But thats because Im in rentals all the time

plausible...

If I was serious about such an endeavour as renting-out my NSX, and my primary concern was wear-n-tear/reckless-driving/irresponsible-conduct... I would simply do the following...

Inform the potential renter of the following provisions I've done:

- integrate a hidden GPS-based tracking-system and view/log real-time movement on my computer.

- install a tamper-proof performance 'governor' to limit the red-line to 5750rpm's, lower the top-speed to 95mph, and remove the TSC-deactivation function.

- program an engine data-logger to record various performance/physical/economy parameters.

Obviously, all this would be in addition to taking a sizable deposit/collateral and usual insurance-coverage inquiry, etc'...

... and remember,

~ only poseurs rent a NSX, those who keep-it-real own one! :D

Dude, you're asking these questions after listing it for rent?

I'd have to agree with the man - if you have a rental you don't give two hoots about how you treat it. Even if the person has insurance, do you want to have to get a call from the driver saying he pranged it!?

No way - but depends what the car means to you really - to each their own. Some people are silly anal about the car (myself included) whereas to others it is just a very cool car they own. Neither is wrong or right, it's just how you feel about it.

Personally, I would never do it!

Can you elaborate more. I know they say it's cheaper to rent than it is own.

They also say that you're paying this or that way.

NSX for renting reminds my of the NSX which was for rent by a garage and had more than 1 crash per year within this time. There will be much more loosers who want to rent an NSX than owners giving her car for a rent.

Daedelus,

I'm busted!! Yup, guilty as charged!!! I actually have several people interested in my car for rent, I just wanted to make provisions so that I make sure it came back! I guess there really is a small, but real market for this. When I was in Vegas I saw that they had Lamborghinis and Ferraris for rent for these outrageous prices, so I figured there was probably people interested in NSXs also, but at a lower price. '

Did you happen to check the condition of these vehicles? 99 out of 100 are junk! Why? Because people beat on them. Why? Because they can!

I would say if you are not in it for the LONG HAUL, meaning renting your car out on a regular basis, then its a bad idea.

$300 per day!!!??? Holy Cow! Is that all it is worth to you!? That is CHEAP! Remember, you have an EXOTIC!!! IF I were to rent my car out, the price tag would have to be closer to $1000 per day... $300 is not even worth your trouble. Think of it like renting a jetski! People are going to hop in it and drive it like they stole it (same thing they do with jetskis which are being rented for $50-$100/hr)! I think if you are going to rent it, you should be advertising a per hour charge. Maybe $100 per hour, $500 for 6 hours and $1000-$1500 for 24 hours. Of course you would need a nice security deposit of probably at least $2000 if not more. This will not only keep "kids" from driving it, but will have the person driving thinking more of the money they might loose if they damaged something, thus being a little more careful. And of course INSURANCE, INSURANCE, INSURANCE!

BTW... if you are still renting this car for $300/day in September... I will rent it from you while I'm there in Cali visiting my friend... That way I can still drive an NSX while I'm there!!! So put me on the reserve list for around the 14th! lol
