Extended Warranty worth the extra Money?

You referred to the Acura Warranty as 5 years. However you then indicate that it would only add 4 years to your existing warranty? You also mention that this is a bumper to bumper. I assume zero out of pocket for any repairs? While the current powertrain warranty takes you to 2023, this new warranty extends that out to 2025. The difference is that everything including the powertrain would be covered. So you are getting bumper to bumper including the powertrain for two additional years. What could go wrong beyond the powertrain that would cost a lot of money? The electronics, Steering system, air conditioning, power windows, etcetera. Perhaps these items would not exceed the $5330 that you would need to pay. As you mentioned the hybrid system has its own warranty. That is where there is a lot of cost. The hybrid system probably does not cover the engine? Bottom line is generally buying an extended warranty is really a peace of mind rather than a money saver. It might also help if you decided to sell the car to a private buyer to offer an extended warranty. My belief is that the heart of the system is in the powertrain and hybrid system. If the warranty were more like $3500 it might be interesting? Perhaps other dealers will offer the extended warranty for a bit less money?

The cost of the warranty is the same to the end of the year. It will go up in 2021, but I do not know by how much.

$0 deductible

Warranty IS transferable.

It was suggested to wait until the end of the year to buy if you decide to do it. So we all have some time to digest and decide..... No sense to buy now and pay for what you already have for free.....

It is positive that Acura is standing behind the car. While our cars are significantly more complex as well as much more expensive than the earlier NSXs I have a level of confidence in the build Quality as well as reliability. I still believe that car enthusiast will come around to this vehicle as time and experience gains traction. I continue to watch YouTube channels on used exotics and the costs associated with repairing them and/or maintenance. There is something to be said for the Japanese and their focus and philosophy.

just for reference a 60,000. nsx in 1991 is 114k in todays dollars...

"Expiration is calculated from the VSC purchase date and zero miles"

You are correct in that you should wait until close to the end of the factory warranty to maximize your coverage.

The cost of the warranty I quoted was if you bought the warranty by the end of 2020. If you buy it in 2021 then the cost will be higher, and higher yet if in 2022..... It's graduated. It will be the MOST expensive if you bought it the day before your regular factory warranty ran out, or even after the warranty had expired. It will be a tough call for me...... Like someone said it's peace of mind. Get that track time in before the warranty expires as it's covered ..... Then after warranty, I guess you just take it easier. But the car is built to take it, so, fingers crossed, it will end well. There are lots of guys out there that drove them 40-50K miles with no trouble....

price of a 5 year/100k (or any term) is the same whether you buy it now or next year (assuming acura doesn't raise the price). if the dealer told you otherwise, i'm going to say they're incorrect.

Well, I'm just relaying what I was told. It was an email from my selling dealer I think. I was told that this price quote was only good through the end of 2020, intimating that the price would go up from there. The point is, if the price is fixed, why would anyone buy a warranty a year or more prior to expiration of the factory warranty. Time will tell......

My purchasing dealer finally got back to me

For me the Acura 5 year 80K mile (lowest one offered) makes sense.

They will discount it a bit so a little less than $1000 per year.

Pretty cheap insurance against something catastrophic.

My S2000 only required a battery and an Oxygen sensor (after warranty expired) in close to 7 years of ownership.

I just had the 12 V battery replaced on the NSX. The car has been great but I can see paying for the coverage at this point.
