Both those fights went exactly like I thought they would. Fedor and Anderson Silva IMO are the two best fighters in the world right now.

The closest fights Fedor has had were against Antonio Nogueira who sets the benchmark on the ground. No one so far has been able to stop Fedor.

That's what you call MMA Math. Doesn't always add up... but it's all about matchups. Josh can give Fedor a hard time because of his size and he's much craftier on the ground than Tim was. Nearly all the MMA fighters called it that as soon as Sylvia hit the ground, he would be subbed. A lot of times it's a nobody that defeats greatness. Barnett is underrated for sure. But Crocop was unbeatable that night, a man possessed. He's a shell of himself now but I think even Fedor would have lost to him on that night.

Oh that was their first fight. The 2nd Mirko won and their 3rd fight was Mirko at his very best. Obliterated Vanderlei like no one else has ever done and then lays a beating on Barnett. LHK FTW!

I would say "Yeah, Cro Cop got away with one"... But he didn't! Cro Cop spanked Barnett three times so in my mind, Cro Cop is just a way better fighter than Barnett. You don't lose to someone three times and then think you still might be better.

1. Well its obvious that he didn't "win" that first fight and there's no telling how their rivalry would have turned out had Barnett pounded/submitted him. Mirko was def the better fighter in the 2nd two fights, but I think Barnett is the better fighter now and is peaking, where Cro Cop had peaked around that time.

2. That was Cro Cop when he was on top of his game. I don't think he's comming back, actually I think he's already peaked. I hate saying that because he is a top 3 all time favourite fighter for me.

Ken if you get spike or vs on cable look for any of the following shows,ufc,ufc wired,pride fighting,wec,international fight league,and elite xc on showtime.This is real fighting,most anything goes except groin blows,pokes to eyes,kicks or knees to the head of an opponent on the ground.This style of pro fighting has had a resurgance of late.

I think you're thinking is wrong. :biggrin: Come on Chado, how do you figure? that is such a huge assumption. I've seen Mirko get defend and get back on his feet on more than one occasion. If he did it against Nogueira, he can do it against Barnett. Anyway... you can't predict what didn't happen.

Well I made that statement because of the way the first minute of the fight went. I know thats not a perfect indicator by any means, however with huge matchups like this one it can be very telling how the fighters come out of the gates so to speak. Barnett looked very aggressive and had already landed knee strikes and made Mirko miss badly (notice how Cro Cop came out against Wanderlei in the fight Malibu posted above. He came out aggressive and dominated Wanderlei because of that fact. I don't think Wanderlei was ready for that and took too much of a beating before he finally got aggressive a few minutes later and then took the LHK. Wanderlei doesn't fight moving backwards, but he was forced to against Mirko the same way Mirko was about to be forced to fight on the ground against Barnett before the injury).
He had Mirko down and we ALL know Mirko is not nearly the fighter he is when on his back (especially at this time). Josh Barnett is an awesome wrestler with great strength and submission skills.

But all in all just my opinion.:smile:

Fujita had Fedor stunned very badly, but we know what happened after that. Still can't understand how he survived the 'Randleslam' either. No doubt he is the best though. Best chance anyone has of beating him is on a cut, his skin is very delicate. Since elbows are not allowed in the orgs he's been fighting in, this has been somewhat mitigated. HW's with a 'fair' shot of giving Fedor a good fight would be Nog for a 4th time, Andrei, and most definitely Barnett, as you guys said. Nogueira has been through many wars and is possibly on the downside, Arlovski has been a bit gunshy lately and might be protecting a suspect chin, but Josh is still young and fresh...and looked great in KO'ing Rizzo IMO. I don't think Randy has much of a shot, and the clock is really ticking for him obviously.
Yeah Crocop was posessed that night, and layed a vicious beating on my favourite fighter when his shin cracked across the side of Wand's dome. Silva might be smiling now though, in the knowledge that he's enjoying a resurgence while Mirko is faltering. Despite what he says, I don't believe he'll be returning to the UFC.

I agree that Anderson Silva will not be beat for awhile.

As to Fedor he certainly demolished Tim Sylvia and may be the best heavyweight. Then again, two comments: (a) look at Crocop since he has come to the Cage - he was a dominator in the ring but since coming to UFC and dealing with the cage he has struggled at best, so it is unknown how Fedor would adapt, and (b) the beauty about MMA is that matchups are very difficult to evaluate sometimes and at the highest levels the element of surpirse where a single strike or a momentary lapse can lead to a submission.

I would like to see Fedor fight Couture in the cage and not the ring. I would also love to see a Chuck Lidell (who has been a bit off lately too) fight Fedor (although Fedor would need to drop 20 lbs or Chuck would need to go up a weiht-class.

I love Chuck but that would not be pretty for him. He'd get demolished because Fedor is so much more diverse and can stun in ways you'd never expect. Only 36 seconds to beat Sylvia, and there I thought Randy looked good against Sylvia. At this stage of Chuck's career, I think he will only get one or two more big name fights. He is slowly fading out and if he gets a shot one more time, I am very positive that Anderson Silva will be in his way.
